Synopsis

Nothing Like Before is a documentary stylized view into the life of present day teenagers living on Czech-German border - geographic and social periphery in the middle of Europe. The film portrays daily lives of 3 youngsters, brought together in one particular high school, and witnesses their transformation into mature individuals. To what extent are they prisoners of their surrounding environment, family prototypes and the educational system and to what extent are they capable of becoming autonomous creators of their own fates?
19-year old Renata is using her looks and men´s interest in them to get as far from day-to-day reality as possible, dreaming her showbiz dream as a local DJ and singer.
20-year old Peter stopped taking hard drugs as a gesture of solidarity to his unexpectedly pregnant girlfriend. He also ended his gardening studies, rented a flat and began a career as a workman in the town milk-factory.
In the midst of the refugee crisis, 20-year old Anna is leaving home to gain professional experience as a chambermaid in a hotel resort on the Greek island Rhodes. In a way she is also trying to leave her family and personal problems behind.
Nothing Like Before depicts two years of the main characters lives, following them through a number of transformations, which prepare them – or perhaps not – for future adult life.
