La Frances Hui is Associate Curator of Film at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), where she joined in Fall 2015. Prior to her MoMA appointment, she was Film Curator and Associate Director of Cultural Programs at Asia Society New York, where she worked for 15 years. Hui has curated film series covering a wide spectrum of Chinese cinema, from silent classics to propaganda films to contemporary mainstream cinema and independent films. She has also organized series featuring New Wave Japanese, Japanese documentary, contemporary Thai, New Wave Iranian, and popular Korean cinemas. She has presented retrospectives of Tsai Ming-Liang, Jafar Panahi, Midi Z, and Shohei Imamura. Hui has also curated for Film Southasia, Kathmandu and was the co-curator of the 36th Asian American International Film Festival (2013). Institutions she has spoken at include New York University, Museum of the Moving Image, Hamptons International Film Festival, Margaret Mead Film Festival, and Stony Brook University. She has also served on review and jury panels for National Endowment for the Arts, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, International Symposium on Electronic Art, South Asian International Film Festival, and New York Indian Film Festival.
