DOKweb Content
www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Czech Docs Project

Czech Docs

Within the Czech documentary project, IDF organizes seminars as well as informal meetings for Czech directors and producers called Docuthé. The thematic focus of the seminars reflects the current needs of Czech documentary filmmakers, corresponding to those fields where the documentarists need support or leadership. Primarily, renowned international professionals in the given fields are invited to the seminars.

Docuthé also includes informal meetings of Czech documentarists, for instance dinners organized during the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (IDFF Jihlava), with IDF securing the complete industry section. At the same time, we enable individual consultancy of Czech professionals with international VIP guests at the festival.

Together with IDFF Jihlava and the Czech Film Center, IDF annually publishes the Czech Documentary Films catalogue and organizes the Upcoming Czech Documentaries Presentation. Besides a selection of finished documentary films, the catalogue primarily includes all the upcoming projects for the following year in all stages of production. Thus it creates a transparent survey of the upcoming documentaries to be further distributed at major Czech as well as international festivals and institutions. A selection of ca ten upcoming projects is subsequently presented at the Presentation of Upcoming Czech Documentaries for journalists and festival selectors.

The documentary films listed in the catalogue are further included in the continually updated online film database including information and previews completely covering the documentary filmmaking in the Czech Republic.

The Czech documentary project endeavors not only to make Czech filmmaking more transparent but also to broaden its international distribution. Among others, it selects Czech documentaries for the East Silver Caravan, a selection of East European documentaries traveling to dozens of world film festivals. The institute has an extensive knowledge of the given films as well as of the festival profiles. Thus it can create a relevant list of potential festival destinations for each work.
