Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities

Founded in 2001, INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of Central and East European creative documentary film and its wider promotion.

We work closely with Central and East European film directors and producers and provide in-depth development support for their projects as well as international promotion.

We also work with key international festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, film institutions, film schools, MEDIA Desks, training programmes, national film centres and various film portals, and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM – an indispensable source of documentary projects and films from Central and Eastern Europe.

Doc Launch

Submit your soon-to-be-released documentary film to Doc Launch, a presentation that showcases 9 outstanding documentaries from Central and Eastern Europe. At Doc Launch, festival programmers, distributors, sales agents, buyers, members of the press and audiences get the first glimpse of films in post-production slated for theatrical release over the following year. Doc Launch is designed for documentary projects that find their niche in cinemas or at festivals.

This year will mark the second edition of the Doc Launch presentation. The presentation builds on a long tradition and has hosted a number of filmmakers and producers who presented their rough cuts and documentary projects in post-production. Last year the presentation hosted many notable filmmakers, such as Nikolaus Geyrhalter, Audrius Stonys, Pawel Lozinski and Pavel Kostomarov. Some of the projects have already been completed and started travelling the festival circuit, including Nikolaus Geyrhalter's Abendland (premiered this March at Diagonale where it received the Award for Best Artistic Editing of a Documentary Film) and Ramin by Audrius Stonys (screened in April at Visions du Réel). Father and Son by Pawel Lozinski and Pavel Kostomarov's You Too are to be released later this year.

Dates: October 27 - 28, 2011
