The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Cinéma du reél 2012: Last Call – November 15.

The 34th Parisian documentary film festival held at Centre Pompidou announces the last call. Submit your film by November 15 at the latest to become an eligible applicant for the late March 2012 edition. The documentaries featuring at the festival will compete for 8 awards, including considerable cash prizes given away by prime French institutions and funds.

Cinéma du reel

March 22 – April 1, 2012
Paris | France

Submission deadline: November 15, 2011 (included)
Application form: online available HERE.

The films submitted must be copyrighted in 2011 or 2012 and only films that have not been commercially released or broadcasted in France are eligible for submission for the International competition and the First Films international competition. The festival’s artistic director determines the selection of films and the sections in which they well be programmed. The selectors of Cinéma du reel prefer cinematographic writing and approaches, in a broad understanding of documentary that can sometimes challenge the traditional borders of the genre, whatever the subject, length, format or form. The festival is not, however, seeking news reports, current affairs programs, journalistic-style documentaries, promotional or corporate films.

Submitting

- All films sent to the festival must be submitted by completing the online submission form available on the official website. It must be also printed, signed and sent along with the DVD (or VHS), postmarked November 15th 2011 at the latest.

- The Festival has facilities for screening 16 and 35mm prints, Beta SP, Digital Beta, HDV Cam, DV, Mini DV, DVCam and DVCPro video tape. The Festival prefers the original theatre print of the completed work. Only quality prints will be accepted.

- Films selected for the International Competitions are screened in their original version with subtitles in French and English. The costs of electronic subtitling in one of these two languages will be borne by the Festival, the other by the production.

- Selected films will be included in the festival’s video library, accessible to professional accreditation holders. However, the video library may also include films that were not selected for the festival itself.
