During the workshop, the directors will try to provide answers to the general questions which emerge in the genre of documentary film in contemporary Europe using specific examples from their own works. The goal is to introduce the upcoming generation of European filmmakers, discuss their choice of film topics and confront various attitudes towards documentary making.
One of the aims is to initiate discussion about the documentary filmmaking tradition of the respective countries and to compare the attitudes of European filmmakers and those who come from non-European background. The guest speakers will discuss the question of how deep their films are rooted into the concrete environment and if such a thing as universal European film exists.
Last year One World organised first seminar of this kind during which Czech, German and UK filmmakers confronted the traditions of documentary making in the respective countries.
