www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

DOCRES VNO - VILNIUS RESIDENCY FOR DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKERS

Documentary filmmakers from the Czech Republic, Latvia and Estonia are invited to apply for the DOCRES VNO residential programme in Lithuania. Three participants will spend 3 - 4 months in Vilnius, meeting their colleagues and getting to know Lithuania's culture. The final output of DOCRES VNO will be short documentary films based on their encounter with Vilnius. The project is organized under Vilnius - European City of Culture 2009.

 

DOCRES VNO - RESIDENCY PROGRAMME

 

Short Description of the Project
Project DOCRES VNO aims at creating the space where the young upcoming documentary filmmakers could stay, meet, and experiment with video/audio technologies, observe an everyday life of foreign country, experience the society and traditions of Lithuania and make documentaries based on those experiences.

 

DOCRES VNO is a complex project:
a) 1st Part – “Residency” is targeting foreign filmmakers – inviting young filmmakers from European countries, giving them comfort to live and observe the everyday life of Vilnius for 3-4 month, get inspiration, and make short documentaries “Vilnius the Town I Didn’t Know Before”.
b) 2nd Part - “MediaLAB” is a technical basis for “Residency”.

 

Project DOCRES VNO aims at creating long lasting relationship for documentary filmmakers, city society and artists. It is a meeting point, where artists meet their colleagues, and get to know the diversity of cultures in Vilnius European Culture Capital of 2009. Filmmakers will get opportunity to reflect impressions and new experiences gained during the Residency period in own documentary films and screen those films for Vilnius public and international audience.

 

 

What activities are planned?
a) DOCRES VNO invites 3 young filmmakers: one from Czech Republic, one from Latvia, and one from Estonia to reside in Vilnius for 3 or 4 month. Residency in Vilnius will start April 13th, and will end September 14th, 2009. The final product of Residency – the completed 3 documentaries under working title “Vilnius the Town I Didn’t Know Before” will be screened expected dates September 11, 12, 13, 2009.

 

b) MediaLAB should start functioning from April 1st and end in December 24th, 2009. It will be build gradually, based on digital workflow.

 

Artists in Residency will get access to MediaLab facilities and equipment: HDV cameras, camera accessories, regular lights, mics, and post-production facilities build on final cut pro editing. Artists in Residency should have knowledge and experience of shooting HDV format and editing in final cut programme. Artists should be able to make rough-cut of the film on their own. At the final post-production stage the professional editor and sound designer will be at the Artists in Residency disposal.

 

 

DOCRES VNO provides:

  • Accommodation for the residency period;
  • Access to production and post-production equipment and facilities;
  • Professional editor and sound designer for the final film post-production stage;
  • Advises in organizing shootings;
  • Organizes meetings with Lithuanian film professionals;
  • Organizes film screenings in Vilnius.

 

 

Artists in Residency:

  • Should be young artists who made already at least one documentary or short film after graduation from film school;
  • Should be able to handle on her/his own the cameras and sound recording equipment while shooting;
  • Should be able to handle making the rough cut on her/his own on final cut pro editing, if possible have own Mac book for rough editing; 
  • Should take care of own per-diem and arrival and departure to/from Vilnius.

 

 

Rights
DOCRES VNO will take the Theatrical, TV and Internet broadcast, commercial and non-commercial rights for 3 years, also right to produce multilingual DVD with the films made during DOCRES VNO project.
