58th BERLINALE - Berlin International Film Festival
February 7 - 17, 2008

Up to 400 films are shown every year as part of the Berlinale's public programme, the vast majority of which are world or European premieres. Films of every genre, length and format can be submitted for consideration. The Berlinale is divided into different sections, each with its own unique profile: big international movies in the Competition, independent and art-house productions in Panorama, movies specially for a young audience in the Generation section, the most exciting German cinema productions in Perspektive Deutsches Kino, an in-depth look at films from "distant" countries and experimental forms in the International Forum of New Cinema, as well as an investigation of diverse cinematic possibilities in the Berlinale Shorts. The programme is rounded off by a thematic Retrospective and a Homage, which focuses on the lifework of a great cinema personality.

FORUM - SPECIAL SCREENINGS

CITIZEN HAVEL
(Film & Sociologie, Czech Republic 2008)
Director: Pavel Koutecký / Miroslav Janek

Citizen Havel features a unique mix of official and behind-the-scenes footage, focusing on Havel's political as well as private life. The audiences will get a glimpse of his tension during the first presidential election or his difficulties while practicing a speech. They will also see him recite poetry or pour a shot of Becherovka for Miloš Zeman. The camera does not turn away from Havel even as he gets angry and starts swearing over badly tailored shirts. The film will also solve some of the most persistent and mind-boggling mysteries in Czech politics: How did Václav Klaus manage to get into the jazz club? Who seated Jacques Chirac next to the first lady? Just as in his private life, both Havel's wives, Olga and Dagmar, play an important part in the film that will also show some of his friends, a number of world and Czech politicians or the Rolling Stones.

Screening Times:
Mon, Feb 11 - 19:30  CineStar 8
Tue, Feb 12 - 16:30  Delphi Filmpalast
