Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Film of the Week: Family Meals

In between their favourite dishes, Dana Budisavljević's family discuss - with awkward pauses as well as newly found acceptance - unresolved issues from the past. The director's coming out provides one such topic, others revolve around the parents' split, sibling jealousy and the power of memory and denial. The film was pitched at the 2010 East European Forum and is now part of the East Silver catalogue.

Family Meals won Special Mention and Audience Award at the 2012 ZagrebDox.

In 2010, the film attended the East European Forum. Film professionals with access to the East Silver Streaming can watch the film online. If you would like to sign up, please contact office@eastsilver.net.

Do you remember when was the last time you talked to your parents? What did you talk about? Did you go a step beyond weather forecast and daily politics? Can a conversation about buried family secrets help you eat without cramps in your stomach? Can a failed birthday cake help you embrace the past? A birthday celebration brings together an ordinary four member family five years after their last gathering. They start questioning what made them turn away from each other. Through the ritual of family meals, the film unveils how important it is to feel accepted by our loved ones.
