Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities

Founded in 2001, INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of Central and East European creative documentary film and its wider promotion.

We work closely with Central and East European film directors and producers and provide in-depth development support for their projects as well as international promotion.

We also work with key international festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, film institutions, film schools, MEDIA Desks, training programmes, national film centres and various film portals, and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM – an indispensable source of documentary projects and films from Central and Eastern Europe.

Film of the Week: I Will Forget This Day

The short documentary analysis allows the director Alina Rudintskaya dig in the minds of several women who face the weight of an irreversible life decision. Desperate, all of them took courage to seek out a specialist and have an abortion. Thanks to its concisely suggestive cinematography and bleak atmosphere, the film captivated juries of experts at various international film festivals, including the jury of the recent IDF Industry event in Jihlava which awarded the film with Silver Eye Award for the best short documentary.

The young author’s documentary originated under the auspices of the renowned Russian production house Saint-Petersburg Documentary Film Studio. With awards from IFF DocumentaMadrid and IFF IndieLisboa, I Will Forget This Day follows Rudintskaya’s successful documentary series and festival appearances that managed to gain considerable domestic and international reputation for her. The Institute of Documentary Film conmstantly includes her documentaries in the selection of the best East European docs which are the base of East Silver Market. It seems no surprise than that I Will Forget This Day became this year’s winner of the Silver Eye Award among 9 competitors nominated for the short documentary film category. In addition the award itself the director was also granted with €1500 cash prize, the year-round festival service East Silver Caravan and, since this year’s annual, even the submission in a specialized VoD portal Festival Scope.
