Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Film of the Week: Trains of Thoughts

The voices of people and machines resonate through the metro systems explored in Timo Novotny's Trains of Thoughts. Replete with music, Novotny's film essay on the life buzzing beneath the neat urban surface gets its world premiere this week at the Karlovy Vary IFF.

Trains of Thoughts premieres July 3 at the Karlovy Vary IFF.

Timo Novotny landed a sensational win at the 2006 KVIFF when Life in Loops (A Megacities RMX) received the Crystal Globe. His latest documentary essay Trains of Thoughts will have its world premiere at the festival; in 2008 the film attended Ex Oriente Film and East European Forum. In 2011 it made its appearance before international sales agents, distributors and festival programmers at Doc Launch presentation.
