www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

GEORGI AND THE BUTTERFLIES AT KARLOVY VARY IFF

One of the most successful documentaries that started its path at the East European Forum organized by IDF will be screened at the Karlovy Vary IFF. Bulgarian director Andrey Paounov who pitched his documentary in 2002 in Jihlava along with producer Martichka Bozhilova is - after receiving awards at international festivals - coming back to the Czech Republic with the completed film.

GEORGI AND THE BUTTERFLIES 
Georgi and the Butterflies tells the story of a man and his dream. This man is Dr Georgi Lulchev, a psychiatrist, neurologist, Chinese medicine man, administrator, amateur chef, entrepreneur and Director of the Home for Psychologically Disabled Men. His dream is to organise a farm in the yard of the home, where the patients can raise snails, ostriches and pheasants, produce silk fibres and soybean food.This is a story full of optimism, snails, ostriches, silk, charity, the Eastern Orthodox Church, soybean food, schizophrenics, oligophrenics, psychopaths, Korean investors, Western hunters, misery, acupuncture and compassion.
Award-winning Bulgarian documentary film Georgi and the Butterflies is continuing to draw audiences. The hour-long film, directed by Andrey Paounov, was finished in 2004 year. It has won the Silver Wolf Award at the IDFA International Documentary Film Festival in the Netherlands, and a honourable mention from the jury at the ZagrebDOX festival in February. It has also recently been shown at, among other events, the DocAviv documentary film festival in Tel Aviv and the Thessaloniki international film festival.
The Verdict of the Jury of FICC (The Federation of Film Discussion Clubs) awarded director Andrey Paounov on the Cracow International Film Festival for "its positive outlook on life and the search for something better".

HOW DID IT START? 
 Andrey Paounov and Martichka Bozhilova were selected among another 14 documentary project and took part in the EAST EUROPEAN FORUM in 2002 and therefore had a chance to present the prepared film to the panel of the European TV commissioning editors. After the documentary was finished, it has become the most succesfull "child of the Forum" and can be taken as an example of a small documentary project being finished with the large international co-production.

DIRECTOR:

Martichka Bozhilova – AGITROP. AGITROP was founded in 1998 by Boris Missirkov and Georgi Bogdanov, cinematographers and photographers, in order to realize creative projects in the field of filmmaking, TV and video production, photography and graphic design.
