Open City - London Documentary Festival
June 21 - 24, 2012
United Kingdom
Open City - London Documentary Festival is a prestigious, 4-day, public-minded celebration of documentary filmmaking brought to you by UCL - London’s Global University. The international call for film submissions for both established and emerging talent is open. Deadline - February 24, through Withoutabox.
From shorts to full-length feature films, Open City screens films that step beyond current broadcast conventions, and through its programme of workshops and discussions focuses on the craft, storytelling and the collective challenges of filmmaking. It is a festival celebrating independent film that, through panel discussions with experts in the field, supports the issues and stories explored at the same time as encouraging experimentation and testing of the boundaries of the documentary form itself.
The award categories for 2012 are Grand Jury, Best City Film, Best Emerging Director (UK and International) and Best MyStreet Film (www.mystreetfilms.com).
The jury for 2012 is still to be announced but, to give you an idea of the calibre of the jurors, in 2011 it included the filmmakers Pawel Pawlikovski, Penny Woolcock, Cristi Puiu, Simon Chinn, Rachel Wexler and Gillian Wearing.
Based in London it offers independent filmmakers from around the globe the opportunity to have their work seen by award-winning judges, fellow filmmakers and a broad public audience.
