www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Out of Reach Grabs Honourable Mention at Sundance

Jakub Stozek's short documentary film Out of Reach received Honourable Mention at the 27th Sundance Film Festival (January 20 - 30, 2011). The film is part of the current East Silver Market catalogue.

Stozek's Out of Reach was one of 6 short docs recognized by Honourable Mention at the Awards Ceremony that took place January 25 (other HM recipients: Choke, Diarchy, The External World, The Legend of Beaver Dam, and Protoparticles).

Out of Reach was screened in the Short Filmmaking section, along with 80 other shorts, both fiction and documentary. The Jury Prize in U.S. Short Filmmaking went to Brick Novax Pt 1 and 2. The International Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking was presented to Deeper Than Yesterday.

The Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary went to How to Die in Oregon that tackles the subject of euthanasia. In several other awards, the Sundance juries acknowledged the horrors of a soldier's life post Afghanistan (World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary, World Cinema Cinematography Award: Documentary); the subtle work of a horse whisperer (Audience Award: U.S. Documentary); an F1 legend (World Cinema Audience Award: Documentary); enigmatic tiles (U.S. Directing Award: Documentary); a chimp stuck among humans (World Cinema Directing Award: Documentary); the black power movement archives (World Cinema Documentary Editing Award); a killer turned preacher (Excellence in Cinematography Award: U.S. Documentary); the man behind Elmo (U.S. Documentary Special Jury Film Prize), and a rich portrait of Indonesia (World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Prize).

Karolina and Natalia seek refuge from their domineering father and reminiscence about sad childhood without a mother in a basement of their block of flats. When the younger sister’s poor eyesight starts to deteriorate, the girls decide to find Bożena, their mother, who left the family when they were young. The director, Jakub Stożek, accompanies Karolina on her journey to Paris where the older sister is supposed to meet the mother whom the girls know only from the voice message left on the phone she never answers. Will the daughter be able to establish a bond with the mother she has not seen for fourteen years?
