DOKweb Content
www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

WE'VE MOVED!

After four years in the black-and-orange attire and several more at docuinter.net, the Institute of Documentary Film has officially launched the new portal www.DOKweb.net. A marvel of web design and usability, our reinvented home provides an unparalleled access to details on thousands of East European docs and professionals, offering a variety of industry resources, articles, updates and trailers. Please bookmark and feel free to explore www.DOKweb.net, your gateway to East European documentary film.

www.DOKweb.net is designed as a very user-friendly and intuitive site. Users with an average experience and skill in navigating the Web will have no trouble at all finding their way around the portal. This brief guide serves only to point out some of the basic concept features of our site.

As you enter the homepage, you'll notice that a trailer starts playing in the background. DOKweb.net is built as a website within a player, giving users a permanent yet unobtrusive choice to either focus on textual information or switch to video content.

The player is located in the top section of the page and by clicking on the "switch to video" button, you'll be able to watch the trailer in the full-screen mode.

Use standard player buttons to control the video content or click on "switch to website" in top right corner to leave the video mode and return to the default view.

www.DOKweb.net is divided into two basic levels. The left section with purple or lilac blue accents contains information about East European documentary film in general. By opening East European Docs, for instance, you'll access the database of several hundred completed and upcoming documentary films.

Whether you choose to browse the vast list or are looking for a particular film, numerous filters on the left-hand side - Country / Year / Director / IDF Events, etc. - can help to narrow down your search. Click on the X in the purple panel (next to release filters) to access the main menu in the green section of the site.

In Articles, texts can be sorted using a variety of tags that are also displayed below each article.

Open the Producer's Calendar to find hundreds of dates and deadlines for major documentary festivals, markets, funds, applications or training programmes. Browse the calendar using the month buttons above the currently displayed days.

In the Industry Database you'll see well over 5,000 entries. These can easily be sorted by type - festivals, organizations, markets, schools, funds, etc. - or by country. Use the "Country" select field or click on the bubble image of the country you'd like to explore (Note: The size of each bubble depends on the whim of the website editor).

The greenish section of the portal keeps you up to speed on all of our activities. Visit this section to read the latest news on Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, Czech Docs or East Silver. Here you'll find out what projects made the cut for the 2010 Ex Oriente Film... Equally interesting is the list of destinations scheduled for the East Silver Caravan...

Clicking on any highlighted name in the credits (see the previous figure) will take you straight to the filmmaker listings that include a bio, filmography and an overview of IDF-related events which the person attended. While navigating our portal, please use the embedded "back" / "forward" buttons.

To those with a voracious appetite for trailers or those suffering from a case of black site nostalgia, our Video Room offers nearly 600 trailers and clips. Access this section from the menu on the left-hand side or using the button on top of the page.

In addition to the standard filters found elsewhere on the site, the Video Room includes select fields that allow sorting by language and subtitles.

Click on the IDF logo to return to the homepage.

In case the filters don't seem to do the trick and if all else fails, try searching the site using the fulltext search field below the language button.

Right below the fulltext search, you're welcome to sign up to receive periodic updates from IDF by typing your email address in the newsletter field.

Finally, you can also subscribe to our RSS feed and become IDF's fan / friend on facebook.
