The Documentary Organization of Canada / Documentaristes du Canada (DOC) is the collective voice of independent documentary filmmakers across Canada. It is a member driven organization dedicated to promoting, supporting and developing the art form of documentary filmmaking. As a national non-profit association it advocates on behalf of its members to foster an environment condusive to documentary production and strives to strengthen the sector within the broader film production industry.

After the successful launch ten years ago, Doc & Co, is the foundation structure of the sale of television documentaries joined by new shareholders who seek to broaden the company's business after its opening to international film distribution. This is a two-day course taught over two weeks structured specifically for the documentary/factual world.It will be highly interactive, including formal teaching and practical group and individual exercises. It aims to increase your awareness of market requirements and how to present yourself most effectively to the market to make progress creatively and financially.Aims of Doc Biz: To give participants a theoretical and practical introduction to the full range of skills required to operate successfully as a freelance/microbusiness in the UK documentary/ factual industry.These skills are contextualised for relevance to both the individual and the small company / To increase participants’ awareness of market requirements and how they can most effectively present themselves and their products/ services to the market. / To enable participants to develop a realistic view of what they have to offer and enhance their professional effectiveness and confidence.

The International Documentary Challenge is a timed filmmaking competition where filmmakers have 5 days to make a short non-fiction film (4-7 minutes.) All of the registered participants make their films during the same time period (early March) and are required to ship the movie by the deadline. In addition to being restricted on time, the filmmakers must choose between 2 assigned documentary genres (such as Biography, Music, 1st Person, etc.) and are assigned a specific theme (such as "Freedom") that will dictate the content and direction of their film. The top 12 films (determined by a panel of judges) premiere at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival in Toronto where the Winners are announced. After the premiere, there are additional theatrical screenings in major cities, possible television exposure and a DVD release of the best films. The films are also streamed on our website for voting for the Audience Award and many films (including non-finalists) can be seen on the SnagFilms Doc Challenge Channel.

Doc Launch supports East European documentary films in the production and post-production stage on their way to distribution. It consists of the annual Doc Launch presentation and the year-long Doc Launch programme that supports East European documentary films at international events, providing them with consultations and networking possibilities aimed at facilitating distribution. Doc Launch presentation The Doc Launch presentation annually introduces 8-9 handpicked feature-length documentaries from Central and Eastern Europe. Festival programmers, distributors, sales agents, members of the press and audiences get the first glimpse of films in post-production slated for theatrical release over the next year. Building its profile around outstanding documentary projects aiming for theatrical distribution, the Doc Launch presentation is based on the tradition of Docu Talents from the East, co-organized at the Karlovy Vary IFF from 2005 until 2009.

DOC Meeting Argentina is a space devoted to documentaries meant to encourage the construction of networks among cinematography and television industry professionals, at the national, regional and international levels; the development of projects under process; the creation of an area for the discussion of different strategies for co-production, marketing and distribution of the documentary genre; and, undoubtedly, a business area created to market documentaries filmed in various formats. DOC Meeting Argentina is divided into three distinct sections: * Conferences, Workshops and Seminars. Two-day duration. Representatives of television networks and co-production funds and forums, among other professionals, will be presenting lectures on topics such as co-production, acquisitions, distribution, new technologies, legislation and copyright. * One On One Meetings. One-day duration. A business roundtable will be held as part of DOC Meeting Argentina. In this roundtable, producers, buyers and sellers will have a chance to show their projects – completed or under development – to co-producers, television representatives and organizations. * Pitching Forum. In DOC Meeting Argentina, producers and/or directors will have a chance to present their projects to a group of 12 Commissioning Editors (representatives of international television networks who are responsible for the co-production or pre-purchase of documentaries), with the intention of receiving international financing for their projects. Twenty-four projects will be selected.

DOC NYC is a new festival celebrating documentary storytelling in film, photography, prose and other media. Curated by the team behind "Stranger Than Fiction," the programming will range from world premieres to retrospectives to panels, assembling the world's leading creators for dialogue, inspiration and incubation of ideas.

Doc On-line. Digital Magazine on Documentary Cinema has two editions a year and results of a partnership between the University of the Beira Interior (Portugal) and State University of Campinas (Brazil). Doc On-line site is located at Labcom-Laboratório de Comunicação On-line (UBI). Doc On-line's main goal is to divulge research in the scope of the documentary cinema, with special emphasis on multidisciplinary approaches.

The Doc Shop is Hot Docs’ documentary market running concurrently with the Festival and conference. Doc Shop offers users an on-demand video library of 1500+ documentaries from which they can browse, select and view films at any one of the 40 on-site computer terminals.

The festival of documentary films DOCsk takes place in Košice, Slovak Republic. The 4 day long showcase offers a possibility to watch a number of creative documentaries. The festival will also introduce new Slovak and Czech documenraries and student films.

Doc/it – Italian Documentary Association is known in and outside of Italy as the official association representing producers and filmmakers in the Italian Documentary Film Industry. The purpose of Doc/it is to promote the documentary genre, to nurture its growth and to work towards its widest possible diffusion. In order to fulfill this mission, Doc/it operates on many different fronts: - Coordinating and encouraging the work of firms and filmmaker in the field; - Participating in and contributing to festivals, exhibitions and markets; - Improving institutional awareness; - Promoting projects, research, cataloguing, archives, and the collection of projects and information; - Organizing workshops, seminars and courses in order to spread the culture of the documentary.

The website offers information and a wealth of resources, news, events, tools and concepts shaping the current documentary landscape.

Docaviv International Documentary Film Festival in Tel Aviv is a showcase of fine documentary films from Israel and around the world. It is the biggest film festival in Tel Aviv and the only one which is dedicated exclusively to documentaries. The festival runs a few competitions, including an Israeli competition, an international competition, a student film competition and a youth competition. The festival is held yearly in the spring in Tel Aviv. It hosts a large number of local and international professionals and attracts a large and vibrant local audience.

The International Film Festival DocBoat / Warsaw Nonfiction E-fest is the first Polish online film festival dedicated to documentary film. DocBoat accepts creative documentaries of any length; there is no fee required for entry. DocBoat is an international showcase of documentary films on environmental issues, social & political engagement, transformation and other important challenges of the 21st century, screened live by the Vistula river bank in a boat and also on the Polish internet. DocBoat is a free to view, interactive, TV-quality VOD platform supported by Warsaw authorities. DocBoat uses streaming TV technology and this streaming of content is accessible only for computers logged on the internet in the Polish territory. The festival includes a film competition, several out-of-competition sections, tributes and retrospectives, panel debates, masterclasses and many other events.

DocClub is a documentary filmmaker safeguarding organization. The founders believe that a strong professional safeguarding organization would be able to help create the conditions for quality and open-minded documentary making in Hungary, and lead to competitive production. The members find the present situation of the Hungarian documentary film untenable, because its position is taken by popular news, reports of inferior quality and pseudo-documentaries.

DocHouse was formed to support and promote documentary in the UK. DocHouse aims to: increase participation and develop new audiences for documentaries in the cinema, on television and emerging media; create easier access to UK and international documentary; promote the use of documentary through education at all levels; nurture and encourage new talent for the future.
