The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Since 2010 Slovene Philanthropy and Zavod Voluntariat celebrate the World Refugee Day (June 20th) in Slovenia by organizing the Festival of Migrant Film which takes place in the capital city of Ljubljana. The festival is dedicated to all the migrants of the world and features a selection of films and videos of multiple genres which highlight diverse topics related to migrations, asylum/refugees and integration of migrants into local society. Thematic focus of the festival reflects an important aspect of the global society of our time, as migrations are becoming one of the principal global demographic trends of the 21st century. While some people migrate on their own initiative and terms, others are forced to leave their homes because of causes out of their control. The Festival of Migrant Film strives to uncover a wide array of causes, conditions and struggles experienced by millions of people who have been forced to leave their home and seek protection and opportunity for a decent life outside of their home country.

The first Festival of music documentaries in our region (former Yugoslavia) took place in 2007. With this project we are forging international connections with other countries and promoting new ideas and movies. In addition to screenings, we have a complimentary programme of photo- and painting-exhibitions, workshops, concerts and book promotions. Documentary movies are now at their commercial and artistic peak and we are delighted to promote many great movies from this genre. Usually we combine regional productions with the best in international work. We also have as our raison d'etre touring to other countries and cities in this region - in 4 years we have been to 44 cities in 4 countries and presented highlights from our festival. Festroia International Film Festival

Festroia - International Film Festival was established in 1985 and takes place every year in Setúbal. The main competition presents feature films from countries producing or co-producing up to thirty feature films a year. Films that do not fulfill these criteria can be shown in other informative sections. The festival has also the Costa Azul Award for fiction and documentary films that deal with the interaction between humans and their environment (natural, cultural or social). Films in this section are selected by invitation. The third competition section (the Troia Award) aims to recognize young filmmakers who present their first feature films. The programme also includes retrospectives and tributes that focus on a particular country or filmmaker.
