The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

APIO FILM is one of the first independent film and TV production companies in Poland. Its founder, Piotr Augustynek, as DOP, director and producer, has been strongly involved in the subject matter of conscious and independent Poland. Even during the martial law in Poland in 1981 he produced documents about the actions of the anti-communist opposition. These materials were disseminated in Polish underground circulation and transferred to western TV stations (NBC, ANTENNE 2). Nowadays many materials recorded by him are broadcast by ARD, WDR, NDR, Reuters, BBC, BRT, 3 SAT, SKY NEWS. He is the DOP and producer of many documentary films devoted to people who are outstanding (e.g. A. Wajda, B. Chromy, J. Mehoffer) or significant for the European culture (John Paul II, K. Arciszewski) or historical events (the history of the first transport of Polish prisoners to Auschwitz). He specializes in topics deeply rooted in the past but strongly affecting the awareness of the contemporary world.

Apothecary Films was founded in 2006 by Australian independent film maker Benjamin Richards. With over 18 years experience in the TV, Games and Film Industry as a 3d consultant, designer & visual effects artist, Ben has decided to apply his keen photographic eye and passion for story telling to film and documentary production. During his time with the software powerhouse Autodesk Ben was lucky enough to consult with the likes of Pixar, Weta Digital, Animal Logic, Electronic Arts, Sega, Ubisoft and many other industry leaders. Over the years Ben has also filmed various pieces showcasing the Electronic Music Festivals he held, more than 40 events in total between the years 1998 and 2002, with his partner and founder of ArtCore. The most notable events were the annual Summer Dreaming festival, a 3 day outdoor event with over 30 international artists, numerous events in Sydney’s famous Darling Harbour and an Interactive Multimedia event in Centrepoint Tower called Odd which blended cutting edge electronic music and visuals with Australian Indigenous artwork and performances. A passion for travel, photography, sociology, psychology, technology, science, technocracy, people and life combined with a truly empathic personality makes Benjamin Richards well suited to tell stories from all walks of life across a broad spectrum of topics.

Apple Film Production, one of the first independent production companies in Poland was founded in 1990 by Dariusz Jabłoński. To date the company has produced 9 feature films (“Street Games”, “Sekal Has to Die” – the first ever Czech-Polish-Slovak-French co-production - “The Auricle”. “I Am Looking at You Mary”, “Sucker Season”, “Bellissima”, “My Fried Chicken”, “The Spring to Come”). Apple Film has also produced 15 tele-plays, 21 documentaries and 1 six-episode TV series. All of these productions have been at a high artistic level, confirmed by many awards at domestic and international festivals and competitions. Internationally, the best known production of Apple Film is the documentary "Photographer" by Dariusz Jabłoński, awarded many prizes including the Prix Europa for Best Non-fiction TV Program of 1998; the Grand Prix VPRO Joris Ivens Award at IDFA in Amsterdam 98; Best Documentary in Banff ’99; Grimme Prize ‘00 in Germany; Grand Prix FIPA D'OR,Prix Planete in Biarritz 99; Best Documentary at Double Take, Durham; Bavarian Tv Prize ’99 and many others. Apple's high level of quality has been reflected in the esteem which the company has received from independent producers and TV stations. Most of the Apple Film projects have been produced in co-production with Polish Television, Canal+, HBO, MDR, ARTE, WDR and independent companies from Germany, UK and the Czech Republic. At the moment the Company is producing a twelve-episode drama series for TVP.
