The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

The UnionDocs Collaborative is a one or two-year program for emerging media producers. It is both a rigorous platform for exploring contemporary approaches to the documentary arts and a process for developing an innovative group project. The program focuses on providing what we believe are the most effective educational resources for individuals at the beginning of their careers: * Mentorship toward the production of an original work. * Dynamic interaction among a network of talented peers. * Direct contact and structured exchange with visiting artists. * Exposure to a wide variety of practices and models. * Regular group critique sessions. * Exposure through a toured exhibition and/or publication of annual project.

VGIK International Summer School

The aim of the VGIK International Summer School is to acquire additional knowledge and training in the profession, to develop academic and creative film production contacts between the students of film schools from different countries and to exchange the knowledge and experience in the field of the film education. Within the framework of the summer school the students of Direction, Cinematography, Film production departments of film schools will get to attend master-classes of European and Russian filmmakers, present and discuss their stories on the proposed theme, explore the area of the shooting, receive an expertise and professional advise of the professors at all stages of film production, shoot a 10-minute documentary film on specific theme.

ZeLIG - School for Documentary, Television and New Media

ZeLIG is an institution dedicated to training people in the documentary film sector. As such, it represents a focal point for students, teachers and professionals in an international context. Training in documentary film-making lies at the core of ZeLIG’s many interests. The three-year, full-time course in documentary film-making is tri-lingual (Italian-German-English), with majors in camera/lighting, editing/post-production, and directing/project development; ZeLIG also offers a course for professionals in the social documentary field, ESoDoc, a European training initiative funded by the Media program; ZeLIG’s continuous training efforts include courses for professionals held periodically; ZeLIG organizes conferences, debates, film series, and is involved in important projects and collaboration on an international level.
