Established in 1977 and re-launched in 2001, the Cambridge Film Festival has developed into a high profile event with a reputation as one of the UK's most prestigious and well-respected film festivals. Competition of Non-Professional Films and Video Programs. The program of this national competition of non-professional films and video films with international participation is divided into three categories: 1. Culture and Historic Sights (films about cultural history focusing on folklore, crafts, architecture, folk customs, and filmmaker profiles), 2. Creation and Conservation of the Environment (films and video programs about nature), 3. Current Lifestyles (etnographic films and video programs documenting various lifestyles of people by age, social group, and agglomerations). The films are evaluated by an international jury. In addition to the presentations the festival has its educative perspective in its expert seminar.

The main purpose of Cinanima is the promotion of the animation cinema, aiming to conquer new audiences as well as to encourage the exchange of experiences between film professionals and audiences. Films may compete in the following international categories: short films (max. 15 minutes), short films (15-50 minutes), feature films (over 50 minutes), first film / graduation film, TV series or TV film. The Cine Eco - International Environment Film Festival of Serra da Estrela, takes place in the Municipal House of Culture of Seia in October each year. It was established in 1995. The festival offers various thematic sessions and parallel activities and the international, lusophony and youth competition.
The Festival annually receives more than 500 documentaries about environmental issues from more than 30 countries. Around 50 of them are selected for the contest.
The Festival pursuits to attract new audiences, sensitizing them to the cinema, its history and its esthetics. In 2006 the Festival received the National Prize for the Environment of the Portuguese Confederation of Associations of Environmental Defense. The Festival is currently a founding member of the Association of Environment Film Festival (EFFN - Environmental Film Festival Network), and performs several extensions throughout the country during the year.

Cinéfest Sudbury was established in 1989 and despite some early skepticism, Sudburians quickly proved that a mining-oriented community could be receptive to repertory film culture as cinema-buffs crowded theatres during the inaugural three-day event. Each year since the Festival has continued to mature and expand. By 1993, Cinéfest Sudbury evolved into a full-service film organization, with the Festival growing to include upwards of 60 films over 5 days.
