The Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) is a 10-day celebration of visual arts and cinema, screening over 200 multi-genre films from around the world and highlighted by a series of gala events, awards ceremonies, and special presentations.

Established in 1977 and re-launched in 2001, the Cambridge Film Festival has developed into a high profile event with a reputation as one of the UK's most prestigious and well-respected film festivals. The Festival was originally conceived with a two-fold purpose: as a means of screening the very best of current international cinema; and to rediscover important but neglected film-makers and their films, which were either out of distribution or unseen for many years. The Festival's mission is to showcase the very best international cinema to the widest possible audience, by premiering and previewing outstanding new work as well as acknowledging cinematic classics through retrospectives and revivals. The Festival's acclaimed programme includes feature films, shorts, and documentaries from around the world, as well as a Children's Film Festival. The atmosphere is heightened by visits from actors and directors, parties and receptions, workshops and educational events, and spectacular outdoor screenings and drive-in movies.

The festival is open to films and videos made by filmmakers between 6 - 18 years of age, either as individuals or in teams. The competition is divided into two sections: one for films made by filmmakers in the age group of 6-12 years and the other for 13-18 year-olds. The festival accepts feature, documentary and animated films, with the max. length of 20 minutes.

Every year the festival presents the current national output in the field of film, video and television. The festival accepts feature and short films in the categories of fiction, documentary and animation; videos and TV documentary programmes.

Founded in 1946, the Cannes International Film Festival has become a major event for film fans, filmmakers, producers, buyers and distributors. The aim of the festival is to reveal and focus attention on works of quality in order to contribute to the evolution of motion picture arts and to encourage development of the film industry throughout the world. The films can be entered in the two main competitions: the general Official Selection, and Cinefondation that is intended for film schools. The Official Selection consists of Competition, Out of Competition and Un Certain Regard sections.

CWFF serves as a platform for the discovery of new and emerging talent and we are devoted to the nurturing and development of new filmmakers and their cinematic vision. The feature competition programs presents a special award for first time directors working with limited budgets, thus enabling the Festival’s mission to give exposure to emerging filmmaking talent.

The festival is organized by Cartes (Centre for Art and Technology) and presents digital short films by Finnish and international artists. The festival is open to young artists and is especially geared towards young audiences.

Cartoon Club - International Festival of Animated Films and Comics was established in 1985. The festival wants to promote and present short and feature animated films from all around the world. Every year the festival offers a wide selection of films, comics exhibitions, retrospective programmes, workshops, debates, etc. In the off-season, Cartoon Club continues its work by promoting scriptwriting and comic technique courses as well as educational courses on animated cinema in schools.

Its primary activity is organising the Celtic Media Festival. The Celtic Media Festival is supported by broadcast, film, cultural and economic development organisations throughout the Celtic countries. The Festival is an annual three-day celebration of broadcasting, film talent and excellence from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and Brittany.

Competition of Non-Professional Films and Video Programs. The program of this national competition of non-professional films and video films with international participation is divided into three categories: 1. Culture and Historic Sights (films about cultural history focusing on folklore, crafts, architecture, folk customs, and filmmaker profiles), 2. Creation and Conservation of the Environment (films and video programs about nature), 3. Current Lifestyles (etnographic films and video programs documenting various lifestyles of people by age, social group, and agglomerations). The films are evaluated by an international jury. In addition to the presentations the festival has its educative perspective in its expert seminar.

The festival was established in 1994 as an international competitive event in order to present full-length and short films by gay/lesbian authors or films that deal with GLBT issues. The festival program includes also retrospectives, focus and special screenings. In 2004, more than 14 000 visitors attended the event.

The Chicago International REEL Shorts Festival seeks to provide opportunity for filmmakers around the world by showcasing their work to REEL PEOPLE in the Chicagoland area. We seek to provide a supportive atmosphere with low entry fees and low cost ticket prices. We are the REEL filmmakers choice for showcasing REEL talent to REEL people.

Cimatics - International Platform for Live Audio Visual Arts & VJ-ing - is a showcase of audiovisual creations in a broad sense of the word: video, VJ work, animations, documentaries, audiovisual representations or offshoots of installations, recordings of multimedia performances, experimental media art, etc. The festival is meant for artists residing in Brussels, and the submitted works should be under 15 minutes.

The main purpose of Cinanima is the promotion of the animation cinema, aiming to conquer new audiences as well as to encourage the exchange of experiences between film professionals and audiences. Films may compete in the following international categories: short films (max. 15 minutes), short films (15-50 minutes), feature films (over 50 minutes), first film / graduation film, TV series or TV film. There is also a national competition that is designed for Portuguese directors and productions - the jury will award the best Portuguese film and best young Portuguese director. The Organising Committee will programme the following sessions: panorama, retrospectives, special screenings for the public and special screenings for film professionals.

Cinarchea is intended to be scientifically well founded just as much as to find acceptance as a popular festival. It provides opportunity for getting into contact, motivates communication and discussion, and all this not only for the professional audience and participants, the international experts (i.e. archaeologists, filmmakers, heads of museums and other institutions, journalists): it also tries to attract a broader public by offering an attractive programme of general interest, and thus project some of the fascination archaeology implies.

Ciné Droit Libre is a human rights film festival that takes place annualy in Ougadougou, Burkina Faso. The festival supports young West-African filmmakers whose films focus on human rights.

The Cine Eco - International Environment Film Festival of Serra da Estrela, takes place in the Municipal House of Culture of Seia in October each year. It was established in 1995. The festival offers various thematic sessions and parallel activities and the international, lusophony and youth competition. The Festival annually receives more than 500 documentaries about environmental issues from more than 30 countries. Around 50 of them are selected for the contest. The Festival pursuits to attract new audiences, sensitizing them to the cinema, its history and its esthetics. In 2006 the Festival received the National Prize for the Environment of the Portuguese Confederation of Associations of Environmental Defense. The Festival is currently a founding member of the Association of Environment Film Festival (EFFN - Environmental Film Festival Network), and performs several extensions throughout the country during the year.

The festival was founded in 2006 in order to present and promote films that are concerned with the issues of solidarity, multiculturalism, globalization, human rights, poverty, education, environment, healthcare, terrorism, xenophobia, etc. Participation is open for professional and amateur filmmakers who work in video or film format. All entries must be related to the subjects promoted by the festival, e.g. homeless children, genocide and human rights violation, AIDS in developing countries, refugees, etc.

National Competition of Amateur Films and Video Films. CINEAMA is a Slovak national creative competition and review of amateur films and video films. The main competition is divided into six categories: documentary film, feature report film, experiment, feature film (video), animated film (video and video clip). The festival also includes a category for independent filmmakers and young filmmakers under 18. Films made by non-professional filmmakers from the Czech Republic are shown out of competition.

Cinedans Amsterdam - International Dance Film Festival is organized by Stichting Cinedans, a non-profit foundation promoting themes pertaining to dance films. The festival wants to share the exciting possibilities created by combining camera and dance. The festival accepts dance films and videos of various styles; preference is given to animation, experimental, documentary, abstract and narrative titles.

Founded in 2004, CineFest focuses on the presentation of films by young filmmakers. Over 200 films from all over the world are screened in Miskolc, in the categories of full-length/short fiction, documentary, animation and experimental film. The festival also organizes a variety of concurrent events, such as workshops and discussions.

Cinéfest Sudbury was established in 1989 and despite some early skepticism, Sudburians quickly proved that a mining-oriented community could be receptive to repertory film culture as cinema-buffs crowded theatres during the inaugural three-day event. Each year since the Festival has continued to mature and expand. By 1993, Cinéfest Sudbury evolved into a full-service film organization, with the Festival growing to include upwards of 60 films over 5 days. Currently screening approximately 135 films, including full-length features, shorts, documentaries and animation, Cinéfest Sudbury provides cinephiles with first-class film works and industry discourse each September.

Founded in 1986, Cinekid Festival is an annual Film, Television and New Media Festival for Children. Every year during the autumn break more than 30,000 children are given an opportunity to attend one or more of the 200 media productions that Cinekid presents: feature films, children’s documentaries, short films, animations, TV series and single plays, cross-media productions, interactive installations and set-ups and workshops. The main festival is held in Amsterdam, but approximately 30 satellite festivals are held in cities all over the Netherlands.
