The Alba International Film Festival is organized by the Association for the Spiritual Cinema Festival. It was created to promote cinema and other art forms dealing with various spiritual aspects from around the world, and the ways in which man finds his dimension in the real world. The Official Selection is reserved for feature films that have not yet been released in Italy. Cinema, a New Vision is reserved for feature documentary films without prior release in Italy. The programme also includes a short film competition, debates, seminars, retrospectives, tributes dedicated to several significant filmmakers, Carte Blanche - a selection of classics by an invited guest, Work in Progress - Italian feature and documentary films that have not yet been finished; Cinema Lessons - filmmakers attend the screening of their works.

The official competitive section of Alcances is open to Spanish documentary films. Commercials, reports, fiction and informative films cannot participate. Documentary films are futher divided into three sections: Full-length documentary films (over 60 minutes), short documentary films (between 25-60 minutes) and documentary series episodes (under 25 minutes). The main language of the festival is Castilian. The best feature documentary film will be awarded 9,000 euros.

During the 41 years of its history the ALCINE has confirmed its prestige and has turned into one of Spain's most important short film competitions. It has become an obligatory point of reference for experts and cine lovers alike... Since its beginning in 1969 the festival has done a great effort to promote the evident great talent in Spanish cinema. Throughout the years the festival has evolved considerably. It has grown to it’s present significant international prestige. ALCINE forms part of an important calendar of film festivals in Europe, standing out in the area of short films.

Forty years ago, in 1969, the 1st Festival of Polish Films for Children and Young People was held in Poznań. The event immediately became a unique, comprehensive and important festival of young audience films in Poland. The Festival, at first held every two years and focused on Polish film productions, became an annual event in the 1990s and went international. At present, under a changed name, it remains the only event in Poland of such a great renown and such a large-scale promotion of modern movies for children and young people. It is also well-known and appreciated abroad as a universal forum for young audience cinema, which supports promotion of Polish and foreign works and encourages discussion of important issues in the area of cinematography having so much influence on the upbringing of future Polish generations. The International Young Audience Film Festival Ale Kino! presents those pictures for children and youths which fall outside any mainstream trends in the market and culture. It shows films which, with their sincerity, artistry and original outlook of the young generation on the world, escape excessive didacticism and mindless entertainment. The mission of the Festival is, first of all, to enable young cinemagoers to see this kind of film productions, to launch large-scale promotion of artistic, intelligent movies for children and young people, and to create a wide discussion platform for children’s cinema. The fortieth anniversary of the Festival is a chance not only to celebrate together or to take part in the international film world, but also to look into the future and try to answer the question of what kind of young people’s cinema is expected by young viewers, their parents and teachers; what kind of cinema children and filmmakers dream of.

The Algarve International Film Festival accepts short films from both Portuguese and foreign directors. The submitted films may be in colour or black and white, with their own soundtrack, in the categories of fiction and animation. Although the film duration of films does not constitute an issue for their entry, applicants are advised to respect the 30-minute duration limit. The following awards will be attributed: City of Portimao Grand Prize – awarded to the best film in competition, be it animation or fiction; Golden Trophy/Fiction – awarded to the best fiction film; Golden Trophy/Animation – awarded to the best animated film; Best Film by a Portuguese director.

The festival aims to be the window that opens up to other culture and for other culture. It promotes exchange of experiences and knowledge, which builds a culture of common humanity and a new horizon to proceed together. The festival is a productive forum for film-makers, and together we will create something new. It celebrates and supports the creative talent, and builds a cultural interest in documentary films and explore its dimensions.

[A]lliance Cine is open to filmmakers from all over the world. In selecting films, the organizers concentrate equally on the artistic value and the human rights content. The selection is made up of the following film categories: news report, feature, documentary, animation, etc.

International Festival of Young Cinema. There are two categories: category "Young Cinema" includes fiction and documentary films – full and short films, and the category "Debut" has no restriction on the film’s genre and director’s age.

The Almunia Film Festival is a competition of Spanish short films under 20 minutes. The jury awards prizes for best short film, best Aragon director, best short film from the region, best animated short film, best artistic short film. The Audience Award comes with the prize money of Euro 500.

Alpha-ville is a London based non-profit organisation exploring the intersection between arts, technology and society. The organisation presents an annual festival that operates as an online and live platform for creativity, innovation and forward thinking.

In the last years the ALTER-NATIVE International Short Film Festival became a debut not only for the film creators from Romania and nearer regions, but also from the rest of Europe and the whole World. For the last twelve years, in Tg.Mures cinema goers have had the opportunity to see 60-70 film on the average, and approximately the same number of directors, cameramen and producers again found out that their work is watched with interest and appreciation.

Alternative film/video is the festival of Yugoslav alternative film and video. The aim of the festival is to document and define in theory the trends, to point at the values and new creative possibilities in the fields of alternative film and video. All autors of alternative film and video have the right to participate. The founder and the organizer of the festival is Academic Film Center in “Student’s city” Cultural Center.

The Amandus Film Festival first took place in 1987. It focuses on young filmmakers under 20 years of age. In 2005 the festival received 360 entries for the video competition and 20 submissions for the screenwriting contest (ideas for a one-minute film). The festival accepts short films (max. 5 minutes) in any category: fiction, documentary, animated and experimental films, commercials, music videos, etc.

Each year, the AMBULANTE Organization, in collaboration with Canana, Cinépolis and the Morelia International Film Festival, organizes a travelling documentary film festival that tours to 12 cities in Mexico with a selection of over 50 documentaries shown in over 140 venues. It creates a space to exhibit ground-breaking documentaries, both current and classic, that we consider socially or cinematically relevant. Travelling with these works, sharing them in different cities, towns and communities, provides the essential ingredient for exchange, fostering a critical vision and generating a collective conscience around how we perceive and understand our realites. AMBULANTE is one of the film festivals with the largest scope in Mexico and an important platform for the exhibition of Mexican documentaries.

The American Conservation Film Festival is an annual event held in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, a vibrant arts community 70 miles west of the nation's capital. The ACFF features films from a diverse group of conservation filmmakers from around the world. As part of our mission, the ACFF: * Provides a venue for diverse range of conservation films that rarely receive a wide showing; * Celebrates conservation film and video in the fun, eclectic atmosphere of historic Shepherdstown, WV; * Showcases independent, historic, publicly funded and Appalachian films; * Offers an education component that complements the film selections and supports those interested in conservation filmmaking.

The American Documentary Film Festival is the largest Docs only film festival on the West Coast of the U.S.

The AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL (AFF) will allow Polish audiences to become acquainted with the contemporary American cinema, as well as the culture and reality of the United States. The festival will present the latest films by both internationally established directors and unknown filmmakers.

The festival was founded in 1982 and every year it presents over 300 feature and short films, both fiction and documentary, to an audience of 60 000.

The Angel Film Festival is a competition for independent short films. It exists to allow a space for nurturing upcoming directors, producers and actors. Submissions are accepted from all non-professional film makers. Submitted films can be in any genre and must not exceed 25 minutes in length. In 2006, the festival received over 600 submissions; 50 shorts were selected for screening.

The Angelus Student Film Festival honors future filmmakers as they explore and create works that respect the dignity of the human person. Family Theater Production established the Angelus Student Film Festival in 1996 to showcase and award emerging filmmakers and encourage them to continue creating visionary projects that honor the fundamental dignity of the human person.

AniFest´s main activity is organizing the International Festival of Animated Films AniFest and besides this activity the company is trying to help new tallented Czech animators and filmmakers with financing and realization of their movies in order to improve the general knowledge about animation and its popularity in the Czech Republic.

Traditional International Animation Film Festival in Brussel with more than 20 editions. Anima, Brussels Cartoon and Animated Film Festival, seeks to promote cartoons and animated films from all over the world. It also seeks to foster a dialogue between professionals, filmmakers and the public, and to raise awareness of quality animation among film and television distributors. The Festival is organising an international competition as well as a national competition for films produced in Belgium (see article 22); both competition are open to all animated films and make no distinction between formats or techniques, regardless of its geographic origin (see article 3). The festival also nominates its selection of films for the Cartoon d'Or, from the European films that win prizes.

Animac is a non-competitive film festival aimed for those artists who use animation as an instrument of their personal expression. Going beyond the limits of traditional narrative, we look for visionaries who make independent and risky works that empower and bring further the expressive potential of film. The programme includes also thematic screenings; past editions offered e.g. a retrospective of surrealist animation and a selection of Mexican animated films.
