Festival presents Czech, Polish and Slovak cinematography presents films of established authors, but also film debuts and young authors.

The Film Festival has had an incredible growth since it first commenced in 1991. The total number of visitors in 2005 reached 42,000. People come from the entire region and from all over Norway to attend the festival. In addition, the whole Norwegian film- and cinema industry is present. The Festival also welcomes a vast number of representatives from the media. The festival screens a selection of quality films from the whole world, most of which have not previously been screened in Norway. During the festival week, we are host for two international juries: Fipresci (The International Federation of Film Critics) and FICC (International Federation of Film Societies). The festival has also its very own Aurora jury, which grants an award sponsored by the Norwegian Film Institute (Norsk filminstitutt). This award guarantees the winner film Norwegian distribution.

The festival highlights innovative work with a cinematic scope, creative takes on contemporary currents, and most of all work that provokes dialogue about its subject and the documentary form itself. For four days, downtown Columbia, Missouri is transformed into a small-town Midwestern utopia. Most films come freshly discovered from Sundance, Toronto and other festivals, others appear mysteriously before their official premieres elsewhere. Sandwiched between the nonstop movies, we throw parties, host debates and field trips, and challenge local filmmakers to reimagine the possibilities of nonfiction filmmaking.

The Tudela Festival of First Films (Festival de Cine Ópera Prima Ciudad de Tudela) was established in 2000 and presents approx. 10 feature debuts by Spanish directors, and wants to be a stepping stone in the careers of the emerging generation of directors, screenwriters and actors. The City of Tudela Award for Best Film is endowed with Euro 12,000; the Príncipe de Viana Award for Best Director comes with Euro 9,000. The Special Award can be awarded to a film, director, screenwriter or an actor and is endowed with Euro 6,000.

The International Film Festival TUR Ostrava follows the traditions of another similar festival about our living environment – Ekofilms, which moved from Ostrava a number of years ago. TUR Festival (Trvale Udržitelný Rozvoj), i.e., long-term sustainable development, would like to continue in its footsteps. The festival accepts films on subjects related to the environment and ecology as well as other aspects of social and economic issues and their impact on our lives.

The Turin Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is open to fiction, documentary, short, animated and experimental films that deal with GLBTQ themes. Festival sections: 1 International feature film competition, 2 International short film competition, 3 International documentary competition, 4 Out of competition, 5 Voice Over, 6 Europa Mon Amour, 7 Porno Visions, 8 Tributes, 9 Retrospectives. Entries for the international competitive sections must be Italian premieres.

The festival was founded in 2001. Its programme consists of guest speakers, workshops and panel debates where the speakers examine various television related topics and themes. All genres are covered: documentary, drama, reality, entertainment, news, formats, the industry etc. Every year the festival hosts more than 500 international guests. Besides a wide range of Danish speakers the festival has about 20 international guest speakers every year. The festival culminates with a gala dinner and award show where the best Danish programmes and television employees are awarded the Television Award.

The UK Jewish Film Festival screens films that are based on Jewish issues and culture. The festival wants to contribute to a positive image of Jewish life; to be a forum for exposure to a diverse range of films of Jewish interest; to promote cultural diversity; to build bridges with other communities, and to explore the diversity of Jewish life and identity.

Nice Short Film Festival was established in 2000. The objective of the festival is to present short films by both experienced and new European filmmakers, and to make the audience aware of the current film and video culture through debates with filmmakers and film experts.

UnderhillFest is dedicated to the full-length documentaries made in small cinematographies and independent productions, that is, to films that imposed themselves by innovation, idea and the power of their stories. UnderhillFest, as such, represents a real challenge in Montenegro, in terms of its program and production. The aim of our festival is primarily to educate the public about the special place that this kind of movie enjoys in the world of cinema, as well as about the power that documentary films have in representing and addressing both the urgent and seemingly irrelevant social problems in the world. Our festival is humane and socially engaged project in every sense: it is set aside from any institutionalized framework, open, slightly alternative and rebellious, intended solely for the free, creative and curious visitor who loves cinema and who can recognize the seriousness of the problems depicted in documentary films. Our festival has managed to find a path to its authentic audience, from the regular documentary films lovers, students who want to learn more about this cinematographic expression, to professional public contributing to the collective film education.

UNAFF celebrates the power of international documentary films and videos dealing with UN related issues: human rights, environmental survival, protection of refugees, famine, homelessness, racism, disease control, women's issues, children, universal education, war and peace.

The up-and-coming International Film Festival Hannover is an international competition for young film, video and multimedia artists. It takes place every two years (odd years) in Hannover, targeting young people up to the age of 27. The festival wants to initiate support for these talents and be a stepping stone into a successful career in the television and film industry.

The festival screens short films (max. 20 minutes) by filmmakers under 30. The following categories are accepted: fiction, documentary, animated, experimental films and music videos.

Founded in 1982, the Uppsala International Short Film Festival has since become Sweden's premier arena for short film, having attained both national recognition of the Swedish Film Institute and genuine international renown. In addition, the festival is the most important international cultural event in Uppsala. Every year the festival shows more than 200 short films in five different sections exploring the diversity and richness of the short film - from new film to retrospective programmes, from fiction film, documentaries and experimental film to animations.

The URANIUM FILM FESTIVAL wants to inform especially the Brazilian and Latin American societies and stimulate the production of independent documentaries and movies about the whole nuclear fuel cycle, about the dangers of radioactivity and especially about the environmental and health risks of uranium exploration, mining and processing.

The festival was founded in 1985 and its aims is to introduce the work of young directors from all around the world. The festival has competitive sections for feature and short (under 30 minutes) films. The jury selects Best Feature Film to receive the Luna de Valencia Award of Euro 30,000. The Luna de Valencia de Oro Award for Best Short Film endowed with Euro 10,000. Special Jury Award for Short Film: Euro 6,000. Also offers special screenings, retrospectives and tributes.

The main objective of Valladolid International Film Festival is to show and promote films of artistic quality which contribute to the knowledge of worldwide cinematography. Besides other sections, festival includes Time of History, consisting of documentaries that deal with moments of history from the privileged viewpoint of cinema.

The festival’s purpose is to encourage the understanding of other nations through the art of cinema, to foster the art of cinema, to facilitate the meeting in British Columbia of cinema professionals from around the world, and to stimulate the motion picture industry in British Columbia and Canada.

The European Short Film Competition Vendome was first organized in 1991. The program includes a national and a European competition. Short films under 40 minutes - produced with the aid of regional film boards - can be submitted, in the following categories: fiction, documentary, animation and experimental film.

Independent, auteur and creative cinema has for 7 years found a home in Venice and its flag at Venice Days, a free space promoted by the Italian filmmakers associations ANAC and 100 Autori. According to General Delegate Giorgio Gosetti: the world’s oldest festival features the prominent surprises of tomorrow’s cinema. We are an autonomous section of the Venice Film Festival and can take top talent down the path to success.

The aim of the festival is to encourage the awareness and the promotion of all the various aspects of international cinema as art, entertainment and industry, in a spirit of freedom and tolerance. The festival has the following sections: Venezia 63 section presents more than twenty films that compete for the Golden Lion, some of the most important works of the year are screened Out of Competition, while the Orizzonti section provides a picture of new trends in cinema. The international short film competition Corto Cortissimo is also in the line-up of the festival. The festival also presents a number of retrospective and tribute programmes to major figures as a contribution towards a better awareness of the history of cinema.

The Vermont International Film Festival is the oldest Human Rights and Environmental film festival in the world. Since 1985, VTIFF has provided a forum for films dealing with issues of war and peace, justice and human rights, and the environment. It has expanded in recent years to include film of any kind and about all subjects. VTIFF is nor a call-for-entry festival and has no submission process. Filmmakers wishing to submit a film should email VTIFF and describe their film, preferably with a link to a website or trailer.

The festival was established in 1991 and has since become one of the largest gay & lesbian film festivals in Europe. It is a competitive event and presents films of interest to GLBT communities. Around 75 feature, short and documentary films are selected every year and screened in Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne and Berlin. In each of the cities, audiences are asked to vote for the best feature (>60min) and for the best short film (under 30min). Every year the festival also hosts a large number of international distributors and buyers, which points out the market character of the event.

VERZIO International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival is organized by OSA Archivum and Verzio Film Foundation in Budapest, Hungary. VERZIO festival aims at highlighting human rights issues and bringing to the broad public powerful documentary films that go beyond the usual media coverage of current social and political affairs. The films address a wide range of issues affecting international affairs today: civil conflicts; war crimes; terrorism; political repression; free media; minorities; acceptance and tolerance versus exclusion, nationalism and racism; equal opportunities, women's rights, trafficking, domestic violence; child abuse. And though much of the subject material is serious, sometimes even tragic, the films are also infused with hope and the conviction that committed people can make a difference. The main program offers approx. 40 international films. Screenings are accompanied by debates with filmmakers, journalists, and film scholars. Hungarian and English are the two official languages of the Festival. VERZIO is also involving Budapest students in the project by organizing morning screenings and follow-up debates for high schools. By encouraging tolerant intercultural communication, the project works to remove prejudices and the negative effects of extremism, racism, national intolerance and xenophobia. There is no entry fee for applications to the Verzio Film Festival and no restrictions on the production date.

To participate in the competition, the films must be directed by an Asian, and/or produced in an Asian country or introduce a topic related to Asian countries, culture, etc. The festival presents approx. 50 feature films (10 films in the competition) and 12 video documentary films| other films are screened in non-competitive sections.
