Lichtpunt is an independent broadcaster and has a two weekly TV programme on the second channel of the Flemish public broadcast (VRT). Lichtpunt is subsidised by the Flemish government. The mission of Lichtpunt is to bring documentaries, interviews and feature films from a humanist point of view. Therefore Lichtpunt broadcasts human/social-interest programmes. Lichtpunt produces a part of its programmes by its own staff, but also buys and co-produces on the international market.

Lion Television was founded in 1997 by Jeremy Mills, Nick Catliff and Richard Bradley. Since then Lion has become one of the most successful independent production companies in the United Kingdom.
The company currently has over 200 production staff at its London, Glasgow, New York, and Los Angeles bases. Overseeing all staff and productions is Shahana Meer, who became a company Director in 1999 having been with the company from its outset.
Lion is one of the few independent television companies noted for its strong relation with international broadcasters in Europe - Scandinavia, Italy, France, and Ireland, Australia, Canada, and the United States.
In the US the slate of programmes includes productions for the CBS network, as well as Fox, PBS (WGBH, WNET and OPB), Discovery Channel, Discovery Health, E! Entertainment, Animal Planet, National Geographic, The Learning Channel, The Travel Channel, HBO, Court TV, A & E and MSNBC.
In June 2004 Lion became part of the All3Media group.

ARD, the nationwide first channel on German television, is run by a network of broadcasting corporations. The broadcasters also operate the third channel as a network of nine regional licences. The ARD member in charge of broadcasting in the German Eastern Midlands (Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony) is MDR - Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk. MDR went on the air in 1992, eventually becoming ARD's fifth largest member. MDR has its headquarters in Leipzig and maintains regional broadcasting houses in the state capitals in its transmission area. As well as regional information and entertainment, MDR broadcasts educational programmes, science and arts progammes (including music), documentaries, feature films, drama series, game and talk shows.
