The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Bavarian Film and Television Fund

Since 1996, FilmFernsehFonds Bayern is responsible for film funding in Bavaria. The FFF Bayern has the goal of developing the film funding system, both in terms of quality as well as quantity. Through this funding instrument, the production location of Bavaria can consolidate and further develop its outstanding position. In the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern the film industry has gained a partner who can give them comprehensive advice, monitoring and funding. Applications can be made with the FFF in the following areas: - Screenplay - Project development - Movie production - TV film production - Sales and distribution - Up and coming filmmakers (first films, graduation project films, other) - Film theaters - Games For the production funding of films for the cinema and television, the “Bavaria effect” applies, according to which the applicant must spend at least 1.5 times the granted loan amount in Bavaria. In addition, Bavarian Bank Funds (BBF), founded in the year 2000, finances films for cinema in production and distribution.

Bertha BRITDOC Connect Fund

The Bertha BRITDOC Connect Fund, a joint initiative between The Bertha Foundation and the BRITDOC Foundation, is the first European-based outreach and engagement fund, and is open to filmmakers from around the world. The fund is looking to support smart, strategic outreach campaigns for ambitious independent documentary films with a social issue at their core; films which have the ability to achieve real change on a local, regional or global level. Grants will be in the range of £5,000 – £50,000. Applications can come at the planning, trial, delivery or evaluation stage of a campaign. Films can apply more than once, for different parts or phases of a campaign. There will be two application rounds per year.

BRITDOC Impact Award

Catalan Finance Institute

Catapult Film Fund

Catapult Film Fund provides development funding to documentary filmmakers who have a compelling story to tell, have secured access to their story and are ready to shoot and edit a piece for production fundraising purposes. Our mission is to enable filmmakers to develop their film projects to the next level at a stage where funding is hard to find. We don’t require that films fit within specific issue categories. We support powerful stories and moving storytelling across a broad spectrum of issues and perspectives. As a result, we support of a range of films, from individual portraits to stories with global implications. Lisa Kleiner Chanoff and Bonni Cohen founded Catapult Film Fund in November 2010. Since its first funding round, Catapult has supported 19 projects and has committed nearly $300,000 to filmmakers getting their projects off the ground. Catapult is based in San Francisco and considers projects from filmmakers across the United States. We also welcome projects with international subjects made by international filmmakers, but they will need to have an American fiscal sponsor.
