Filmtopia represents an open space for quality film that tries to move the frontiers of Slovak viewers' experience with the cinematic event. Each film distributed by Filmtopia will receive individual attention tailored to its needs. Filmtopia's ambition is to create some kind of a laboratory investigating the unique journeys of particular films from the authors to the viewers. This individual approach is based not only on the search for an ideal combination of traditional ways of distribution, such as small cinemas, art cinemas, multiplexes, internet, festivals and television. It is also a quest to find some new possibilities for specific films (film schools, site-specific screenings, events and locations not primarily focused on film, etc.).

The festival was founded in 1949 and offers a comprehensive overview of the developments in short cinema, both with regard to the number of participating countries and the variety of genres and trends. The international competition includes the following categories: fiction, animation, experimental and documentary films. The programme has also a special section for environmental and educational films.

Filmvilag is a monthly film review published on 64+4 pages with a colour cover. With its circulation at between 9000 to 9500, it is one of the leading Hungarian cultural journals. It is a non-profit cultural venture that works as a foundation for the public interest. Filmvilag has been published in its present form since September 1979.

The festival focuses on new and innovative German films. It is especially interested in young filmmakers and their film debuts. About 10 full-length features and over 20 short films are screened every year, and a lot of interesting guests and filmmakers attend the festival to take part in open debates with the audience.
