The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Our authors have been awarded and nominated by local and international festivals such as Berlin International Film Festival, Oberhausen, Kinotavr, Artdocfest, Ashdod etc. Number of films was showed by WDR, NTV, Kultura, ORT TV channels. Currently studio is focusing on creating art documentaries related to the topic of cultural borders (between close people) and human (children) rights. We dream of making a character-driving doc that would glue viewers to screens for an hour and would provoke their thoughts and dreams the day after.

Hubert Bals Fund

Administered by the International Film Festival of Rotterdam, the Hubert Bals Fund is designed to support feature and documentary films by talented filmmakers from developing countries. Since the Fund started in 1988, well over 530 projects from independent filmmakers in Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America have received support. Huelva Iberoamerican Film Festival

Huesca International Film Festival

Hungarian Federation of Film Societies

The Hungarian Federation of Film Societies was organized in 1968 as a joint initiative between film clubs and the film trade. Film clubs used to number three times the 100 clubs in existence today, and an organization was needed to support and represent them. The change of regime and the economic and social changes have had a massive influence on the film clubs´evolution in recent times. The federation disseminates information for its members in its quarterly News Bulletin and has extensive video library. Also, meetings for filmgoers are regularly held, expanding film club members´understanding of film history. The members are informed annually about the work and plans of the federation at a general session. The nine member board comes together twice a year.

Hungarian Film Commission

The Film Commission was set up in 1998 within the framework of the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary with the support of the Ministry of National Cultural Heritage in order to provide location services and promote Hungary as a film location. Hungarian Independent Film and Video Festival

The festival was founded in 1953 and from its foundation has been organised only in the regionals towns, never in the capital, which is unique in such centralised country as Hungary. The best independent films of the year are shown at this festival, selected by a pre-jury. The audience can meet the artist here, as well as the pre- and final jurors, since each program is followed by an open discussion of the film, allowing for an exchange of opinions and for criticism. Participation at all programs is free.

Hungarian National Film Archive

The Hungarian Institute of Film Science was founded in 1957 and it is based on the plan drafted by Béla Balázs in 1948. Its name has been changed to Hungarian Film Institute in 1985. Since June 2000 it is called the Hungarian National Film Archive, the status is a ‘national public collection' since 1991. The Archive's duties: collection, acquisition, preservation, restoration, screening and professional storage of the Hungarian features, documentaries, newsreels, animations, popular science films and classics of world cinema.
