The aim of the VGIK International Summer School is to acquire additional knowledge and training in the profession, to develop academic and creative film production contacts between the students of film schools from different countries and to exchange the knowledge and experience in the field of the film education.
Within the framework of the summer school the students of Direction, Cinematography, Film production departments of film schools will get to attend master-classes of European and Russian filmmakers, present and discuss their stories on the proposed theme, explore the area of the shooting, receive an expertise and professional advise of the professors at all stages of film production, shoot a 10-minute documentary film on specific theme.

Vytautas Magnus University, established in 1922 (reestablished in 1989) is one of the most liberal and modern universities in Lithuania, having liberal studies policy, seeking and establishing successful international relations with other universities all over the world. It is an open university where traditions and innovations meet and compliment each other.
In 2007, there were six faculties at the university (Humanities, Economics and Management, Informatics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Catholic Theology) and four institutes (Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Welfare, Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy).
Seventy study programmes were implemented. Number of students exceeded 9000, and the number of teachers and researchers was over 500. In the future, Vytautas Magnus University is seen as Artes Liberales University with its unique system of liberal studies, openness to the world, dissemination of liberal thought and high quality of studies.

In 2001, Andrzej Wajda and Wojciech Marczewski formed a film school. Based on the concept of the ‘Film Group’ model, they focused on the effectiveness of the group work method and on the collaboration of generations, and offered a program that is unique in Europe, combining education with production targeted to film professionals.
As part of the programs offered by the School, the most interesting directors of the younger generation, both Polish and foreign, are developing their projects and they often produce them here. More than 50 documentary and feature films, as well as 200 shorts have been produced so far. They have been selected and often won prizes at the most prestigious festivals, including Berlinale, San Sebastian, Karlovy Vary, Hot Docs, IDFA and DOK Leipzig. The school enjoys the honorary patronage of the European Film Academy.
The Wajda School Foundation operates with the support of the Polish Film Institute and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. In addition, from 2011 the Wajda School Foundation is subject to the City of Żyrardów patronage, where the school has opened a branch.
In 2011, continuing the mission of the School, Andrzej Wajda and Wojciech Marczewski established a film production studio - The Wajda Studio. The studio focuses on auteur film projects. We are looking for feature and documentary films, and short films on contemporary subjects. The Studio makes a difference by artistic supervision from the best Polish and European artists, and by placing a firm emphasis on project development.

ZeLIG is an institution dedicated to training people in the documentary film sector. As such, it represents a focal point for students, teachers and professionals in an international context. Training in documentary film-making lies at the core of ZeLIG’s many interests. The three-year, full-time course in documentary film-making is tri-lingual (Italian-German-English), with majors in camera/lighting, editing/post-production, and directing/project development; ZeLIG also offers a course for professionals in the social documentary field, ESoDoc, a European training initiative funded by the Media program; ZeLIG’s continuous training efforts include courses for professionals held periodically; ZeLIG organizes conferences, debates, film series, and is involved in important projects and collaboration on an international level.
