The Semaine de la Critique is an independent section, organised by Switzerland's National Association of Film Journalists, in cooperation with the director and organisers of the Locarno International Film Festival. The Semaine de la Critique has its own jury which awards the Prix SRG SSR idée suisse worth 8000.– CHF. The Semaine de la Critique was first held in 1990. Since then it has reviewed state of the art documentary film-making annually with a selection of works chosen for their specific expressive value or essence. To date, a total of 137 films have been screened, including productions by Erroll Morris, Fredi M. Murer, Nicholas Philibert, Richard Dindo, J. van der Keuken, Zhang Yuan, Davide Ferrario, B.Z. Goldberg, Thomas Riedelsheimer or Samir, among others.

Every year the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Università della Svizzera Italiana and the Locarno International Film Festival organise a Summer School to analyse fiction and non-fiction media. The Summer School is part of Réseau Cinéma CH, a Swiss university consortium promoting two Master of Arts programs in Film Studies and Film. The Summer School offers the opportunity to 30 undergraduate and graduate students to explore the techniques of analysis and the processes of film creation and production through a number of seminars and workshops. The official working languages are English and French.

Locarno is a competitive film festival. It aims to promote filmmaking of artistic merit, to provide a showcase for major new films of the year from around the world, and to show new perspectives of filmmaking expression, concentrating particularly on new filmmakers. The program includes International Competition for full-length fiction, InternationalVideo Competition for films on video of over 30 min in length, Piazza Grande for spectacular but innovative films, Filmmakers of the Present for experimental films that erase the differences between fiction and documentary, Leopards of Tomorrow forfilm debuts under 40 minutes, and Retrospective.

LOGTV, LTD was established in 1999 in NY to research, distribute, and produce documentary films, focusing on subjects of environmental, social and human interest, many of them deeply grounded in humanities. The films are primarily distributed to television and educational institutions. Selected list of LOGTV’s grants and fellowships include: NEA Grant, Soros Justice Media Fellowship, Guggenheim Fellowship, NYFA Fellowship, NEH Grant and Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.

LOKI FILMS is a non-fiction film production company founded in 2001 by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady. The directing team has been lauded for shining a light on unknown worlds and taking an honest approach to delicate subject matter.

Lokokina was founded by two independent filmmakers Alexander Kvatashidze and Niko Tarielashvili in 2009 in Tbilisi, Georgia. Both founders have over ten years of background in the film and video industry. Lokokina has produced or participated in the production of three documentaries, one fiction and number of short educational, corporate films and TV advertisements. It currently is developing two feature-length documentaries and one fiction.

The London Australian Film Festival began life in March 1994, as a result of the combined enthusiasm of the Australian Film Commission, which had a London office, and the Barbican Centre. The London Film and Video Development Agency (LFVDA) is the production agency for the London region, combining its own funding resources with Carlton Television and FilmFour to create the London Production Fund. LFVDA manages several film funds that are designed for filmmakers in the London area and across the nation: 1/ London Production Fund -supports new work and talent in the London region. Any professional filmmaker living and working in London can access the fund, although students, TV series and feature films are not eligible; 2/ London Production Fund - Digital Tales: low budget films of up to 6 minutes in duration, shot and edited digitally, and is aimed at filmmakers with a background in artists film and video, photography or digital arts; 3/ London Production Fund: Completion Awards - for projects that can be presented in at least rough cut form; 4/ East London Film Fund - business support for film-makers and media companies located within the Lea Valley and East London regi

The London International Animation Festival (LIAF) screens a selection of animated films from around the world. As well as screenings of works of the best of local and international animation, LIAF presents several programmes of especially curated and retrospective screenings.
