The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Nordisk Forum for Co-financing of Documentaries

Since its establishment in 1994, Filmkontakt Nord has organised Nordisk Forum in conjunction with Nordisk Panorama - 5 Cities Film Festival. Nordisk Forum has developed into the main funding event for professionals involved in the Nordic documentary community, taking place during the Festival in order to maximise the professional benefits of the event. During Nordisk Forum a maximum of 26 new documentary projects are presented to the ca. 40 attending financiers. Based on the results of previous years, more than 70% of the projects are expected to secure financing as a result. In addition, observers and film school students attend Nordisk Forum for an intensive educational experience, experiencing the professional financing process first hand.

Nordisk Kulturfond - Nordic Culture Fund

The aim of the Fund is to further the cultural cooperation between the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, as well as the self-governing areas of the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and the Aland Islands. Nordisk Panorama – 5 Cities Film Festival, arranged by Filmkontakt Nord (FkN) and local institutions. It is the largest annual short and documentary film festival in the five Nordic countries, (Denmark, Finland Iceland, Norway and Sweden), together having a population of around 24 million people, and closely co-operating in many felds. Nordisk Panorama travels every year between the festival's five Host Cities of the Nordic countries, Reykjavik (2004), Bergen (2005), Aarhus (2006), Oulu (2007), Malmö (2008), Reykjavik (2009), Bergen (2010), Aarhus (2011).

Nordnorsk Filmsenter AS - North Norwegian Film Centre

Nordnorsk Filmsenter is an independent regional centre for short and documentary films supported by the three counties in the north (Nordland, Troms and Finnmark) and the host municipality of Northcape. Nordnorsk Filmsenter distributes funds from the Norwegian Ministry of Cultural Affairs. The production support budget for 2003 was approximately 500,000 euro. The centre mainly serves independent production companies in the region, international productions are required to have a regional co-producer. The centre also supports the producers and filmmakers in Northern Norway with advice, assistance and travel/educational grants in order to increase the competence in different subject of the film profession. Nordnorsk Filmsenter also has a distribution programme that aims to boost the release of short and documentary films on film and video. The centre has a particular responsibility to take care of, and develop the production of Saami films.

TV- and film production company NBN (Northern Broadcasting Network, www.nbn.ee) was established in 2001 in February. Testfilm Ltd, what is hosting company of Northern Broadcasting Network Llc, was established in 1996 to support the studies of the students in Tallinn University in the field of media and cinema. Main activity fields of the Northern Broadcasting Network have been producing TV shows and films, renting professional video- and editing equipment and offering interactive new media products and services. In the beginning of 2007 it was decided to focus to develop and produce documentary series about human-environment-technology relationships in various societies and throughout the history. At the moment we have prepared and developed that project almost one year, we have been shooting three times, two times in Norway and once in England. Shootings will continue in 2008 all over the world.

The POEM Foundation is an audiovisual production resource centre. The foundation provides grants for scriptwriting, as well as interest-free loans and investment funding for development and production.
