The Scottish Documentary Institute was set up in 2004 with a major grant from the Edinburgh College of Art. It aims to create a synergy between the practice and study of documentary film, to link industry and academia - in Scotland, the UK and internationally. The Institute organises public talks, screenings and seminars; and runs production and training initiatives (Bridging the Gap, AfricaDoc, Constructing Reality) for new filmmakers. SDI houses Docspace, a research hub which analyses and promotes digital documentary exhibition and studies new technology and cinema audiences.
