The Faculty of Dramatic Arts is a leading academic institution of higher education in theatre, film, radio and television in Serbia. Many famous and celebrated artists, who have all left their mark in Serbia’s cultural identity, have graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts.

The genesis of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDA) in Skopje began on 4th of November in 1969, when the Acting Department was founded and commenced its function at the Higher School of Music. Since 1987, the Faculty of Dramatic Arts has been functioning as an independent academic institution within the University “St. Cyril and Methodi” in Skopje. The study programmes of FDA focus on production, directing, cinematography, editing, etc.

Department of Film Studies

The Faculty of Social Sciences was created in 1990 through a fundamental reorganisation of the former Faculty of Journalism. It is the second youngest faculty of Charles University. Its main goal is to develop teaching and research in those aspects of the social sciences, which (directly or indirectly) relate to the public administration, or to the economic and cultural life of society. Today the Faculty has more than 3000 full-time students, plus a floating population of about 300 visiting students per year. In addition, we continue to enrol a number of foreign nationals in our full-time degree programmes, both Czech and English. Administrative structure. Film and TV School (FAMU) is an integral part of the Academy of Performing Arts founded in 1947. It is one of the oldest film schools in Europe that kept its tradition even during the difficult times of communist regime. There are many influential filmmakers and scriptwriters among the school's alumni, among others: Stanislav Barabas, Oscar winner Milos Forman, Oscar winner Agnieszka Holland, Věra Chytilova, Juraj Jakubisko, Vojtech Jasny, Woody Vasulka, Lordan Zafranovic, Jan Sverak, Ivan Passer, Goran Paskaljevic, Magnum member Josef Koudelka, Jan Nemec, present Prague and National Rabbi Karol Sidon, Stefan Uher and many others. The star-studded period form FAMU were the 1960s, but the school managed to retain a comparatively free atmosphere through also the politically repressive 1970s and 1980s.

Our education system enables topicality, flexibility and quick adjustment to the knowledge market and thus the labour market. We are aware of the fact that the transition from the student life to independent creative and working environment is often difficult, which is why we encourage students through lectures and practical work with mentors and groups as well as train them for independent work in their fields in everyday life. We promote co-operation between students taking different courses, complement their knowledge and provide for the development of individuals and their creative abilities. Students are encouraged to participate and gather experience in extracurricular activities: school's participation in international events, exhibitions in school and outside it, festivals, competitions in broader public area and extracurricular projects.

FBAUP offers a 5- and 2-year study programmes in communications design that include audiovisual subjects (digital video, sound, etc.).

Film Academy in Pisek (FAP) is private art college with the Bachelor study programme. FA continues a tradition of the film education. FA follows the film school in Cimelice (region in the Czech Republic) and the film and television faculty of the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Prague. Most importantly, it follows work that the Private Higher School of Film in Pisek started 10 years ago. Study programme at four departments of the Film Academy in Pisek gives an opportunity to learn more on audiovisual and production works, and to be acquainted by information and techniques in the field. The main aim of the study is to broaden knowledge, skills and understanding of professional and scientific work, deepening imagination, esthetical, drama, and cultural sensation. The study programmes are following: A) Picture, Editing and Sound in AV works, B) Organisation and AV Production Kontrol, C) Audiovisual Production (AV), D) Animation production.

The prehistory of the Film Studies at the Masaryk University reaches back to the period right after 1945. The institutional foundations of the department, however, were not laid until after November 1989, when the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University was established. The subject of Film Studies, or Theory and History of Film and Audiovisual Culture – which is the name under which the department was accredited in 2001, has been independently studied since 1993. Currently, it offers B.A. (3 years), supplementary M.A. (2 years) and Ph.D. (4 years) study programs. Generally, the study program is defined by three major fields of study: history of the Czech cinema, history of the world cinema and theory and history of cinema, television, new media and audiovisual culture. It also provides courses in critical writing, film and TV dramaturgy and screenwriting.

The Film and Television Academy was established in 1991 by a renown film director and cameraman, Roman Wionczek. It is a post-secondary art school which runs a 2-year programme and which is listed in the Register of Non-Public Art Schools of the Ministry of Culture. The study programme offers following specialisations: film director, screenwriter, cameraman and sound director, film editor, cinema and television film production manager. Currently, the school programme lasts two years (four semesters) but is in the process of transforming it’s structure into an arts school of higher education.

Since 1985, Film Education has been developing the range of its resources and services to respond to the growing importance of Media Education in the National Curriculum and to meet the increasing demand for current educational material on film and film making.

The Film School Zlin was founded by czech Oscar winning director Elmar Klos in 1992 to educate young people in all aspects of film, video, radio and audio production. School provides students an ideal opportunity to work in different creative teams, in order to enhance their education and experience in all the basic disciplines necessary for creation of audio-visual works. The Study programmes are following: • Graphic design of animated film- two-year, full-time diplom, • Image and sound in film, television and radio production- two-year, full-time diploma, • Organising of film, television and radio production - two-year, full-time diploma.

The Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg was founded in 1991 as a non-profit limited liability company. Today, it is one of the most renowned international film schools. The project-oriented curriculum triggers learning by doing during all the different stages of a film and television production and thus makes studying at the Film Academy a unique experience. More than 300 highly qualified experts from the film and media business instruct the students and take care of their projects.

filmArche is the first self-organized film school in Europe. More than 130 filmmakers will meet regularly to train together. Moreover, filmArche is an internal as well as external networking platform that provides a wide range of contacts for professionals from the international film industry and cultural organizations.

FilmFarm is a boot camp and a retreat and a place for workshops and creative thinking. FilmFarm presents a unique opportunity for directors, actors, writers and producers to exchange thoughts and experiences on the art of filmmaking. FilmSet was founded in 2002 and is involved in the preparation and organization of educational activities in the field of cinema. Every year FilmSet organizes more than 100 workshops and other projects.

FOCAL, founded in 1990, is an umbrella organisation which aims to develop and promote creative, technical and entrepreneurial skills among professionals in the areas of film, audiovisual arts and new media. Our further training programme encompasses all the elements in the production process: screenwriting and project development, production, markets and rights, directing, grip-work, photography, sound and lighting, multimedia and new technologies, postproduction, animation, distribution and exhibition as well as film criticism and theory.

Organizes short courses, seminars and workshops focused on various fields of filmmaking - screenwriting, lighting, acting, production, etc.

FT2 is a training provider for people who wish to become freelance assistants in the construction, production and technical areas of the film and television industry.

VSMU has been founded in 1949 for the university level art education. It has three faculties: Music and Dance, Theatre and Puppets and Film and Television. Though they have been thought some subjects like script writing or directing, the stand-alone Film and Television Faculty (with all necessary branches and departments to create a film) was established in 1990 as the only University level school for audiovisual media in Slovakia.
