The aim of the festival is to draw attention to contemporary production in the area of film, television, video and multimedia. The festival accepts productions that have not yet been released in Portugal, in the following categories: cinema - feature and short films; video - productions of max. 20 minutes; television - documentary programmes; multimedia - fiction, experimental and animated films produced for the internet. An international jury will select the winners in each category. The festival also organizes a number of workshops and seminars led by international professionals.

Producers and directors Cordula Kablitz-Post and Edda Baumann-von Broen founded Berlin-based avanti media in 1995. Avanti makes films and documentaries for German and French television as well as feature films. avanti media focuses mainly on culture, pop and rock documentaries and portraits of artists. The firm's focus on classical musicians gained it particular success (for example 1999's "Ahn Trio," 2000's "Hillary Hahn" and "Arcadi Volodos," and 2001's "Sharon Kam"). avanti media's been successful with a 60-minute documentary feature series, "Into the night...," in which two well-known personalities from the worlds of culture and art meet for one night in a city of their choice. Since 2002 avanti's "Into the Night...." has run as a documentary serial for the French-German station ARTE. avanti media develops and produces experimental and innovative features such as "Talk 2000" (channel 4/RTL/SAT1) and "U3000" (MTV), both with multimedia artist Christoph Schlingensief. There are few fatter targets for television satire than talk shows and Saturday night entertainment, and both Talk 2000 and U3000 skewer these formats to hilarious and thought-provoking effect. In 2001, Cordula Kablitz-Post founded the avanti media fiction department to produce the feature film "Sophiiiie!" (directed by Michael Hofmann), which got a release on B-Film Radikal in June 2003. At the Munich film festival "Sophiiiie!" was awarded the "F�rderpreis Deutscher Film" for directing and acting. At Mediawave Festival in Hungary "Sophiiiie!" won the prize for "Best Director".

AVEK was established in 1987 by the Finnish copyright organization Kopiosto. AVEK uses its share of copyright remuneration to promote AV culture; cinema, video and television. The majority of the funds that AVEK uses originates from private copying levy; e.g., from blank video cassettes and blank DVDs. AVEK promotes a wide range of projects in the field of audiovisual culture. AVEK funds short films and documentaries, videos, media art and multimedia projects, as well as experimental work in the field. AVEK's production section is divided into two categories: 1/ short films and documentaries, and 2/ media art/multimedia projects. Within each category, it is possible to apply for funding for script writing (individual screenwriters only), pre-production, production, post-production and distribution (production companies). AVEK also supports training programmes for professionals, festivals and other AV events, and research in the AV sector.

Avenue B Productions is a Paris based company that has been developing documentary and feature films for the cinema and televison since 2002: IRAN : A CINEMATIC REVOLUTION (Arte, Yle TSR, Rai3), FIERCE PEOPLE (ARTE, BBC), THE TORN SKIN (ARTE, TSR, Yle, theater release in 2005), VENT MAUVAIS (Canal Plus, Gaumont, released in 2007), PEPPER CANDY (Cine Cinéma, ARTE, Canal Plus, César nomination in 2007), etc. In 2006, Avenue B was nominated for the Best Young Television Producer Award by the Procirep.

Average Monkey (Ahv OÜ) is an independent production company founded in 2005, based 100% on Estonian capital. The company’s films, however, have up to date always been international, the first only and completely Estonian production premiering in November 2008. The company’s portfolio includes renowned arthouse films as well as high-tech productions for NATO and WHO; documentary co-productions with Austria’s ORF and TV commercials for a number of national and international TV channels. Average Monkey is lead by owner and producer Riin Urbanik, who is also a creative collaborator in most of her projects. The rest of the team is usually hired on a project basis, although a few people contribute to most of her endeavours.

Since the establishment in 1996 AVI Studio has been co-operating on the long-term basis with many advertising and production agencies.
