Since 2003, all the documentary hits are traditionally screened at Docudays UA, the only one international human rights documentary film festival in Ukraine. Every year famous filmmakers and talented young screenwriters, film directors and producers from Europe, America, Asia and Africa come to Kyiv to present their films and take part in discussions, round tables, workshops, etc. About 400 films from more than 120 countries were submitted for 8th edition of Docudays UA in 2011. More than 24 000 viewers attended Docudays UA in 2011. Therefore Docudays UA is considered to be the largest information campaign on human rights in Ukraine. The main purpose of the Festival is raising the level of Ukrainian documentary films, promotion of an open dialogue on moral problems in society, human rights, understanding of human dignity as the supreme value, creating the foundation for democratic future of the country. Since 2006, Docudays UA is a member of the Human Rights Film Network (HRFN).

The festival wants to develop, strengthen and disseminate documentary film as an audiovisual medium. Documentary film is to be understood as a faithful reflection of the social, cultural, economic, artistic, environmental or any other real situation that can be found in the world. The festival programme comprises of four competitive sections: Original Documentary Section - full-length/short films that are innovative in form or content; Documentary Reporting Competition - informative documentary films dealing with current events; Madrid Competition - documentary films made in Madrid; Avid Xpréssate Documentary Marathon - intended for the directors whose films were selected for competition in any of the previously three sections.

DOCUMENTARIST – Istanbul Documentary Days is an independent initiative run by a group of young documentary filmmakers. DOCNZ International Documentary Film Festival New Zealand is an international competitive documentary film festival. It aims to foster and promote the art of documentary film-making cinema and to facilitate in New Zealand the meeting of documentary film from all around the world. The festival accepts films in three different categories: short (less than 30 minutes), medium (30 to 70 minutes) and feature (over 70 minutes) documentary films. Preference is given to New Zealand or world premieres.

The Norwegian documentary festival was first held in 1997. It is the oldest and biggest Norwegian documentary film festival. The festival takes place in Volda, surrounded by beautiful nature. The festival awards the best Norwegian documentary, the best international documentary, best student production and the audience award.

DokuFest, International Documentary and Short Film Festival, is the largest festival of its kind in Kosovo and the region. It takes place annually in Prizren. It was founded in 2002 by a group of cultural enthusiasts with the aim of reinitiating neglected cinema culture in Prizren and in Kosovo. Each summer the festival fills Prizren cinemas and other open-air screening venues with a selection of 160 documentary and short films from around the world. DokuFest Film Festival’s mission is to recognize and celebrate the art and craft of non-fiction cinema as well as short forms, including animation and films for children and youth. DokuFest also presents photo exhibitions, concerts, master classes, panels and a pitching session for Balkan filmmakers.

dokumentART Festival is a competitive event and focuses on documentary films by European filmmakers. The main Competition is supplemented by a closer look at the documentary film of Eastern Europe. The San Sebastián International Film Festival (Spanish: Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián; Basque: Donostiako Zinemaldia) is an annual film festival which originated in 1953 and is held in the Spanish city of San Sebastián (officially Donostia-San Sebastián). Although the festival was originally intended to honour Spanish language films, films of other languages became eligible for consideration in the late 1950s. The majority of awards are determined by a jury, but an audience award is also given for the most popular film. The main awards are the Golden Shell and Silver Shell. Every year the festival honours one, two or three actors with the Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Donostia-San Sebastián Horror and Fantasy Film Festival is an international festival. It accepts feature and short (max. 30 minutes) films on the subject of horror or fantasy. A special section is dedicated to Spanish short films. Exhibitions and retrospective programmes focusing on important filmmakers in this field are also part of the festival. Jury and audience prizes are awarding to best films in all categories.

The first Festival of music documentaries in our region (former Yugoslavia) took place in 2007. With this project we are forging international connections with other countries and promoting new ideas and movies. In addition to screenings, we have a complimentary programme of photo- and painting-exhibitions, workshops, concerts and book promotions. Documentary movies are now at their commercial and artistic peak and we are delighted to promote many great movies from this genre. Usually we combine regional productions with the best in international work. We also have as our raison d'etre touring to other countries and cities in this region - in 4 years we have been to 44 cities in 4 countries and presented highlights from our festival. The Documentary Media Society organizes DOXA, Vancouver's first ever exclusively documentary film and video festival as an annual event presenting thoughtful and cutting edge documentary films to Vancouver audiences.

doxs! is the oldest German film festival exclusively presenting documentaries for children and adolescents. The international film programme is part of the well known documentary festival "Duisburger Filmwoche". Each screening is accompanied by a moderated Q&A. The entry to all screenings is free for accredited festival guests and pupils. doxs! works in various fields of media education and constantly develops new pilot-projects which set pace and break new ground.

The Drama International Short Film Festival takes place every year in the city of Drama, and it aims to support and promote the production of short films. The festival accepts fiction, documentary and animated films under 35 minutes. The festival jury selects winners in the following categories: Grand Prix Prize, Second Prize, Best Balkan Film Award and Best Animation Film Award.
