PRIMEHOUSE was founded in 2005 and is focusing on the early linkage of interactive and classic formats and is representing the connection between film, television and Games/interactive media. We use the network we’ve built up for providing financial and marketing support to producers and users of the most diverse market segments during the project development phase.

Private Joke Productions, founded in 2006, has produced the dramatic short « Tremble, tyrants », based on Stendhal's autobiographical « Henry Brulard ». In 2007, the 26' documentary « Some Love and a Spare Room » won a Prize at the Lorquin International Psychology Film Fest ; « In Limbo » (2010) is our first 1-hour doc for French TV. In 2011, we coproduce « The Pumkin Alchemist » for France 3. Currently in development : « Improbable Liaisons », a 90-minute doc for the cinema about out-patients from mental institutions who are cared for by ordinary families.

We gave production crews to more than 60 TV productions. "The Seven Headed Dragon" - 13 part series about cancer, the "Sermon On The Mount" - biblical wandering in the Holy Land, and at the Meteoras with much music and "Endre Szász" - an exciting reportage with the 70 year old master, were our own productions. Meantime we produce documentary films and commercials as well.

Production company Zdenek Holy, s.r.o. was established in 2011 with the aim of producing non-fiction and creative documentaries. The company wants to focus on producing films which have a high artistic level and in the same time significant international potential. The company would like to prepare projects for television formats as well as full-length movies for cinema distribution and shorter series intended to use for Internet platforms. In the film production Zdenek Holy would like to took advantage of knowledge and experiences, which he gained as a longtime film critic, festivals' programmer and FAMU Ph.D.

Our approach to documentary filmThe "observational" documentary film technique (also known as cinema verite, fly-on-the-wall or direct cinema) can be best described as "capturing the extraordinary in the ordinary" -- in other words observing daily life and showing the extraordinary things that go on right under our noses. This approach is related to the study of anthropology, in which people are observed over a long period of time. In practise, the filmmaker chooses a character to portray, gets to know them and the people they interact with, follows them around and builds up a portrait that is as honest as possible. The art is in choosing an inspiring character who can communicate naturally in the presence of a video camera.The observational technique avoids voiceovers, interviews and special effects. If done in the right way (with empathy and patience but without irony) the results can be extraordinary. But getting it right is surprisingly difficult -- even though it seems incredibly simple.Fortunately we work with one of the best makers of observational films in Romania, Laurentiu Calciu. Laurentiu studied documentary in Britain's prestigious National Film and Television School (NFTS) in Beaconsfield. Laurentiu has made films in the Scottish highlands, the Greek islands and in Belgrade during the NATO bombing campaign. He won numerous awards for The Land is Waiting.Commenting on a film we made about British aid in Russia, our Russian translator said "I have never seen true Russian life depicted in such a compassionate and realistic way".It is rare for a filmmaker, or cameraman, to be able to film a scene from real life without influencing what is going on. And to make an ordinary scene “come alive” requires a certain magic that few posses.
