In the state government, matters relating to film and AV culture come under the Department for Cultural Policy and its Cultural Division. Subordinate to the Ministry of Education are the Finnish Film Archive and the Board of Film Classification. The promotion of domestic film production and its distribution has been delegated to the Finnish Film Foundation, which receives an annual appropriation of some EUR 8.7 million for financing film, television and video production and distribution. The sum is used to subsidise about ten feature films and 35 short and documentary films annually. Finland also has a Television and Radio Foundation, which supports domestic production with EUR 2.2 million a year.

Mozaik is a community development foundation that provides grants and advisory support to local initiatives of common interest throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Multimedia Institute [mi2] is a Zagreb-based NGO that sprang up in 1999. Stepping into the still unchartered territory between the social and cultural agency and the developments in new technologies, [mi2] brought together an emerging generation of civil activists, media practitioners, independent cultural actors and social and media theorists. Eight years on, [mi2] continues to pursue following principle tasks: to develop new media practices relevant for critical social and cultural action; to promote and develop socially inflected approaches to technologies – free software, free culture and open standards; to present contemporary philosophy, social and media theory; to present contemporary film, music and new media culture; to protect public domain, contest gentrification and encourage citizen participation in urban development; to strengthen independent cultural sector and to advocate progressive cultural policies in order to support emerging tendencies of socio-cultural reformism in the independent cultural sector. [mi2] is locally recognized through the activities of its cultural center MAMA, its Human Rights Film Festival (jointly organized with Association for Cultural Development - URK) and its engagement in urban activist initiative Right to the City.
