Every year 2300 women in Croatia get ill with breast cancer. Three of them guide us through their lives. Vesna Andrijević Matovac, a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb took surgery ten years ago after which metastatic recidivists followed. She had studied her disease and done everything to be there for her daughter's enrolment to secondary school, then enrolment to university and now she wants to be there when her daughter graduates from university. Almenka Balenović has been working as medical doctor specialised in work medicine for some ten years. Her main motive is also her child, now a seven-year-old boy. They tell us about their paths and battles for medicines and treatments that are unavailable to them through the Croatian healthcare system. That is the reason why they seek solutions abroad. Vesna goes to Frankfurt, to Goethe University to Croatian general scientist Ivan Đikić's laboratory. He gained his international acclaim with new insights into tumour development. Mr Đikić also collaborates with oncology clinics in America and pharmaceutical companies on development of new medicines. Our two heroines also seek solutions in Munich at the radiology clinic with doctor Michael Molls who uses the state of the art radiation methods and also in Barcelona with the world-renowned oncology expert Jose Baselga with whom they are trying to be included in diverse clinical studies. Contemporaneously with her work on this film, the screenwriter Paula Bobanović finds out that she is ill with breast cancer herself. Thus, completely unplanned she becomes the third character in the film. The camera follows her into hospital for surgery, then through chemotherapy, falling out of her hair, radiation treatments...The health Minister will also speak about oncology patients and their rights to expensive medicines along with the leading people of insurance companies and Croatian hospitals that do not have enough money for expensive medicines. The film will try to provide the answer as to how much a human life is worth in Croatia. The amount of money that is annually allocated for expensive medicines will be compared to the amount of money disappeared in various privatisation machinations and criminal activities in state-owned companies in the past few years.
