Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Eugeny and Natalya are extraordinary people with bright and strong characters. They are well-educated, purposeful, efficiently thinking people. In the years of their youth, in 60s-70s of the 20th century, they spent more than ten years in Africa, living and working there, taking part in UNESCO projects of the development of the black continent, dealing with the educational problems and trying to eliminate the illiteracy. They could hardly imagine that they would solve the same problems when they became old, in their country. When the Soviet Union collapsed Soviet educational system collapsed together with it. The educational reform leaded to the fact that the last rural school in Lesnaya Neelovka was closed. The children are taught to read and to write but they can’t get knowledges to continue their education. And Eugeny and Natalya returned to their work – they teach children. “Africa” came back to them after fifty years. In the center of our story is a positive aim of life which unites youth and oldness. Both at the age of 30 or 80 Kvashnins were dealing with the transformation of the world, changing it to better. They always carried this idea in their mind, that’s why it always didn’t matter where they were living. Wherever you are you are to do your job properly, to be good to other people. And this will give you the real sense of life.
