Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Angola Dreams and reality

Angola - sen a skutečnost, Czech Republic, 2008, 56 min, Digi Beta, Human Rights, Social Issues
A civil war which had been running at various degrees of intensity in Angola since 1975 came to an end seven years ago; the conflict had begun when the country ceased to be a Portuguese colony. Tomáš Hodan's documentary shows what happened when the 'white man' returned to Angola, this time to help it get back on its feet. Two Czechs, Vladimír Lima from the organisation People in Need and Martin Lošťák from the Czech Agricultural University, help Angolan students to get a qualification, and in that way contribute to the country's development. However, providing education rather than material support in Angola is far from easy. The film shows in detail the nuances of day-to-day life in which different mentalities and cultural backgrounds continually clash.
