Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

King of the Cancers

A rákok király, Hungary, 2012, 50 min, HD, Creative
Mihály Csukrán lives in Újfehértó in the county of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg. About thirty years ago, as a boxer, together with his team, he won a championship. But he drank much and he was a brawler. So he soon got back to the village. He maintained his parents -whom the collective farm system made very poor.- from his disability pension. They we re very poor, but for all that he achieved four Guinness records . For example he has run the Marathon distance 700 times. so far. It so much annoyed him that the papers wrote about some mad French , about the record he had set, that is why he tried to make it, too. Moreover backwards, with skipping ropes in his hands. The teenagers in the village laughed at him first, they ran after him, and then breathlessly stopped and started to take him very seriously. Mihály built a gym hall for them in the outskirts of Újfehértó, at the estate he inherited from his parents. The strangest gym hall in the world.
