Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Bombing
“We like bombing, the illegal. Legal graffiti doesn’t express how we feel and we don’t want it”. Jef82Athens 2008Four kids walk on the street, singing a tune, painting walls at night. It is their story. They pass by swiftly, faster than their words. They disappear into the city, their city. A street documentary capturing moments from everyday life of Thodoris, Vangelis, Thomas and Giannis -aka Jef82, Mr Phaz, Eversor and JK-1- hip hop and graffiti artists, “correspondents of events”. The camera follows them in Athens, in their daily quest for right colours and true rhymes and the night adventure of bombing. Their words are strong. They “wake you up”, tuned in a youth urban rhythm. Their graffiti is being wiped out and they’re faced with arrest. Yet through their art, they attempt to give the city colour and sound and to cast away stereotypes. In graffiti, names are lost, and replaced by tags. In hip hop, they are replaced by nicknames and battles. They discover original material for their art in a city which traps its inhabitants within hectic rhythms, inside grey walls. Music, hip hop, after all is a way of life, their life. This is a movie about youth urban culture, a short documentary about a clan of four and the adventures of their generation.
