Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Tobacco Girl
Mumine, a 14year old Turkish girl lives with her family in the high mountains of Macedonia. Her family belongs to the Turkish minority. Mumine’s family needs her for the difficult work in the tobacco fields – their only source of income. Mumine is raised in the tobacco plants and the things that are ripe are sold. She is sold to her future husband for 3000 Euros. Will she find a way out from this ‘law of nature’? She has two possibilities in the village: either to be married or to go to school, but then to be sold to her husband for a higher price. It is her dream to move to the city Skopje to go to school. She wants to become a teacher.

Autumn Gold
Life is short. Run faster. Autumn Gold tells the life-affirming story of five athletes in their preparation for the Track and Field World Championships. Their toughest challenge is their age: these potential world champions are between 80 and 100. With ambition and a good portion of humour, they accept the task. On the finishing line of their lifes, they seek their ultimate challenge for yet another time and give their best on the way to a gold medal in Finland. True to the motto: "We can still rest after death."

The Seamstresses
Talented people like artists or writers who stayed have one choice only: work as seamstresses. Eriela, Beti and Vesna are seamstresses in the small town of Stip. If they wanted to afford one of their handmade blouses, it would cost them a months salary. While the women are fully employed, their men are less fortunate and find themselves unemployed after the collapse of communism. A situation with a lot of potential conflicts for the couples. The men find it hard to be dependent financially on their women.

Iceland’s Artists and Sagas
Frosty glaciers and hot springs, dark winter days and bright summer nights - Iceland is a country of the extremes. Not only the nature in Iceland is astonishing: ancient sagas, crime stories, eccentric video art and enigmatic music are a testimonial for the country’s unique art scene. The small island in the Atlantic Ocean is not just a geological hotspot, but also a creative one.
