Daniel Begun was born in Moscow in 1980 and grew up in both Moscow and New York City, USA. Having obtained a Communication Arts degree in 1999, he freelanced as a graphic designer for several years in New York, before moving to Berlin, Germany. From 2003 to 2009 he majored in directing at the Deutsche Film und Fernsehakademie Berlin (The German Film and Television Academy) in Berlin. Since graduating, he has directed the feature-length documentary Ralf a.k.a. Sex in the Desert - a direct-cinema portrait of a Berlin party-veteran; and is in pre-production for 44.Haraam - the sequel to his neo-realistic thesis-film dealing with the daily strife of two small-time Berlin drug-dealers.
