In Memoriam: Alexander Litvinenko
Alexander Litvinenko, former officer in the Russian Secret Service, died in November 2006 in London. He had been poisoned with polonium. The mysterious Livinenko case rapidly developed into sensational news, as the search for the murderers acquired highly sensitive political dimensions. In 2004 Alexander Litvinenko told the story work for the Secret Service to documentary filmmaker Jos de Putter. It was a story as intriguing as the death that he foretold in that conversation. He spoke about complots, bombings, threats and murders, about his time as a soldier in Chechnya, his escape from Russia, and especially about his belief that a series of bombings in Russia, for which the Chechens were blamed, was in reality the work of the Russian Secret Service. After his funeral Jos de Putter and co-director Masha Novikova made an "In Memorian" with conversations with his wife, his father, and his best friends Akhmed Zakayev , famous Soviet-dissident Vladimir Bukovski and filmdirector Andrej Nekrasov.
