Actually, Everything Is Completely Different
The onset of the film Actually, Everything Is Completely Different must have begun with questions such as these: How do you portray someone who has put his artistic energy into making portraits of artists for more than 40 years? How do you portray someone who has persistently aimed at getting closer to those portrayed rather than their art? And, finally: how do you make a portrait of someone who has, for decades, not only hided these potraits from public, but also made himself vanish as much as possible in his films as well as in public discussions of them?
Gibellina - Il Terremoto
A massive earthquake destroyed the Sicilian mountain village Gibellina 39 years ago. Hundreds of people died. The survivors eked out a life in meagre barracks for 15 years. Many left the country. The city was rebuilt 18 kilometers away as a lifeless bedroom community with modern, shoddy architecture and an over-abundance of modern art: an oversized, open-air museum at the border of a failed vision with increasing social and economic problems.
Exploration
The world "exploration" can refer to both an "examination" and "discovery". The film with this title deals with both meanings simultaneously in a kind of thematic concentration: An examination is shown in a manner which explores the aspect of revealing.
Seized
Since 1999 the Neapolitan authorities have seized about 50 ships from various international flag states and stored them at San Vincenzo pier. This is a restricted military area. Only one ship, the Current Vallentta of Malta, has survived the years, having turned into a wreck. One sailor still remains onboard: Marijan Ahel, 56 years old, a Croatian citizen, mechanical engineer. He has lived alone on the ship for more than seven years. (Joerg Burger)
Wolf Suschitzky - Photographer and Cameraman
Wolf Suschitzky is one of the most successful Viennese born directors of photography and photographers, who emigrated during World War II. The film is going to retell his life story. Particulary different from other film homages- Suschitzky will tell his story himself. He is still very agile, living in London. A chance we can’t miss!
Way of Passion
In the introduction to his film, Joerg Burger first presents the site of action. It is Trapani, Sicily; and its inhabitants are preparing for the Good Friday procession that has taken place annually for 400 years. They get a shave and restore wooden statues or embroider their precious garments. These will later form the groups of figures for the twenty altars that depict the Passion of Christ. There is brisk activity in the church, everyone is cleaning; the men are practicing the course of events and carrying of the immense, heavy altar images on their shoulders. In the breaks, they eat and drink, the church space is a simple workshop and practice stage for the great spectacle. On the evening before, they drink wine and play billiards and cards; men enjoying one another’s company - as they usually do.
