Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Chabanier Gabriel

Gabriel Chabanier is a documentary film producer. Having worked in several production companies (Les Films du Village, Culture Production, Same Films…), he created the production company Le Miroir in September 2000 with two film directors and a financial director, all of them having the benefit of ten years experience behind them. Gabriel Chabanier chooses to support the production of film projects that are fully developed and written in a distinctive style, with formally innovative direction. The distinctive feature of his work as a producer is the combination of the interest he takes in established documentary makers on the one hand (Gérald Caillat, Henry Colomer, François Christophe, Pascal Cuissot, Jean-Luc Bouvret, François Vives, Pascal Cling…), along with, on the other hand, his appreciation of working with young film makers, dedicating time to the important development of their work. He regularly succeeds in producing a first film for television or cinema. For the French and international film market, Gabriel Chabanier produces films and documentary collections in the fields of science, the arts and society. In the framework of his global activities, Gabriel Chabanier is a member of several professional organisations : the SPI (Organisation of Independent Producers), the C7, the AST (Association of scientific film producers), and an alternative member of the Procirep. He has been member of EAVE cession (European Producer Training Organisation) in 1998 and recently he has participated to EURODOC program 2005-2006. He is also teaching at Amiens’ University and at the Sorbonne. Currently he is developing several films with international ambitions. As well as considerable work writing, these will require asearch for partners abroad.
