Fabiánová Diana
The Moon Inside You
Like many other women, Diana has been suffering from problematic periods for years. With every new cycle, the same question arises: “Why the pain and annoyance if I am healthy?”.
Her initial innocent curiosity sparks off an emotional voyage to the very roots of femininity and life. MOON INSIDE YOU is a fresh look at a taboo that defines the political and social reality of both women and men in a more profound way than society might be willing to admit. Facing the menstrual etiquette with doses of humour and self-irony, the documentary approaches the subject through both personal and collective references, thus challenging our preconceived idea of womanhood.
In 2004 Diana graduated in Documentary Direction at ESCAC (Graduate School of Cinema and Audiovisuals in Catalunia), where she was tutored by Daniel Jariod and George Karpati. In the summer of the same year, she won the scholarship for study in the intensive workshop Directing Documentaries, taught by Michael Rabiger at the Mallorca Film Academy. She graduated in Mass Media and Journalism at the University of Slovakia in 2002. Subsequently, she worked for tree years as assistant director in the Slovak private TV channel Markiza and in Slovak National TV in the department of Documentaries.
Her first documentary: The Moon Inside You was premiered at the 62nd Locarno International Film Festival as a part of Semaine de la Critique (the first Slovak entry ever) in August 2009 and has since been shown in over 100 festivals all over the World, being most notably chosen by the American Film Institute to represent the European New Wave in Washington DC, as well as in the European Parliament in Brussels, and being screened in Montréal, Chicago, London, Paris, Melbourne, Mumbai, Tunis, etc. Co-produced by ARTE and STV, the film was pre-bought by number of European television networks as well as by the US educational program for colleges and Universities MED. It is currently being included in the educational system in Spain. It had its theatrical release in May 2010 in Spain and Canada and in 2011 in Australia.
