Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Genchev Maxim

At the sidewalk's throne
The sidewalk is not a concert hall. But the street musicians are there. Their army is small. Their faces are familiar, but their names are unknown. The street musicians do what nobody else does – they scatter colors in the gray everyday life. They offer us with forgotten sensations, lost memories. Sometimes they grant us with a spare tear, that we wipe secretly. They turn the city into a place for living. Sometimes we drop a coin in the cases of their instruments. But is their deed worth just a coin – they turn the sidewalks into concert halls, and us – into humans. The street musicians are our guardian angels. This film is a tribute for them.

Maksim Genchev graduates The National Academy of Theathre and Film Arts in 1980. Over 60 theatrical and 25 movie roles. As a director and screenplay writer he debuts whit the short film “Intruder”.
