Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Goričan Uroš

The Vicious Circle
This is a story about Denise & Daniel. A prostitute & a poet. Two heroin addicts. They live in different countries but their life runs in similar circle of addiction. They have different chances to survive as two countries have two completely different social policies towards drug addicts. Denise lives in Hamburg, Germany. She was raped at early age. Her life runs in a circle between money, drugs and prostitution. As Hamburg has liberal policy toward drug addicts she can find a safe place to inject heroin. This is one of the few safe places in her life. She constantly thinks about quitting drugs. It seems this is as strong as the need to take them. Daniel lives in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He is a bohemian type, hanging with his homeless friends. When he is high he can be witty and entertaining. The hardest part of his story is death of one of his junkie-friends. Ljubljana has an extremely conservative policy towards drug users. He injects his drugs in doggy places and spends most of his time in hospitals sick from infections he gets there. Daniel’s reaction to his condition is contrary to Denise’s – his attempts to break clean are not that sincere.
