Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Hilcisin-Dervisevic Masa

Not if you can, but you must
"Not if you can, but you must" is a documentary film that depicts life of people from the village of Lukomir, the most isolated village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an emphasis on the position of women and the male-female relationship. Hard life and lack of perspective in this mediaeval village, possibly the only one of its kind in southern Europe, force young people to leave the village. This tendency brings into question the sole existance of Lukomir.

Masa Hilcisin was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is involved in the field of culture and feminist activism. She is currently engaged in Mediacentar Sarajevo (founded by the Soros Foundation) on different kinds of projects for journalists and media, and in cultural journalism, dealing with subjects of nationalism, gender (in)equality, independent cultural scene, etc. Her cultural activism is connected to Akcija – Agency for Cultural Development through many cultural projects dealing with cultural transition and cultural policy. She is also engaged in Foundation CURE (www.fondacijacure.org) as a feminist activist where she is doing project against domestic violence, and projects to improve women's engaged art. She is one of the organizers of the PitchWise - Festival of Women Engaged Art.
