Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Horvath Andreas

This Ain't No Heartland
Portrait of the atmosphere in the American Midwest during the Iraq War.

Views of a Retired Night Porter
In his documentary film Night Porter's Point of View (1977), Krzysztof Kieslowski introduced audiences to the "watchdog" of the Communist regime, whose guiding life principle was to subject factory employees to thorough scrutiny. Almost thirty years later, the Austrian filmmaker Andreas Horvath profiles this man once again, whose views, despite the different political situation, haven't changed. Horvath's film is a bitterly poetic swan song of the somewhat unsettling old days, and of one of the period's devoted adherents.

The Passion according to the Polish Community of Pruchnik
In the small town of Pruchnik, near the remote Bieszczady Mountains in the south-eastern part of Poland, villagers gather every year on Good Friday to "punish" Judas for his betrayal of Jesus. The film explores the thin line between pagan and Christian rites and raises the timely question to what extent anti-semitism finds loopholes in the Roman Catholic tradition.

Arab Attraction
Arab Attraction explores the unusual paradigm shift of a woman known for her pronounced feminist views. She falls in love with a man from Yemen who is 20 years her junior, to become his second wife and a devoted Muslim.

Andreas Horvath was born in Salzburg, Austria in 1968. He studied photography in Vienna and multimedia art in Salzburg.
